D16Z6, Will it hold up?
D16Z6, Will it hold up?
ok, i am semi-new to imports, and wanted a little advice for my current project. i picked up my civic from a buddy that didnt know how to swap out a seized alternator. its a 94 ex, with a Jackson Racing supercharger, boost timing controller, full exhaust, and a cold air intake. not much else for performance. as far as i know the engine has stock internals. the car is fun as hell to drive, but like most gearheads, i want more. my question is this, how strong is the D16Z6 known to be? i am thinking of freshening up the top end with titanium valve springs, valve job and a cam. then replacing rings, rods, and bearings to tighten up the bottom end. was wondering if everything would hold up to me bumping the compression ratio to say, 10.5-1? i have tried to hit the detonation threshold while tuning the boost timing controller, but so far have failed to do so. i am guessing i should be able to keep in control if i do bump the compression. wanted some advice in case i am blatantly missing something. thanks in advance!
p.s. anyone compelled to tell me i should just do a b series swap, dont. i have already made up my mind to stick with the d. there is just too much money already tied up in this set-up to do a swap now, plus, will be fun to walk all over the local b series hondas.

Re: D16Z6, Will it hold up?
if your running the JR supercharger you'll want lower compression so you can boost more. If you have high compression and big boost your engine will go boom. So it's either low compression, high boost. Or high compression, low boost.
Re: D16Z6, Will it hold up?
i agree, but as far as i have found so far, the highest i can go with this supercharger is 8 lbs boost, which is not much at all. i am just curious of how high i can bump compression before that boom comes. i was hoping that maybe someone had been in this situation before.
