2009 Civic Dome Lights ("Spotlights") won't turn off

I bought a 2009 Civic a few days ago and I've loved it so far. For some reason today, the dome lights (called "spotlights" according to the manual) which are the lights right next to the rear view mirrors came on and can't be turned off.

I looked through the manual and there's nothing in there about how to turn them off besides just pushing them on and off.

If I push them, they come on a little brighter but pushing them a second time doesn't make them turn off. I also have a dealership installed security system. Could it be some weird function of the alarm system? Thanks.

are you talking about when you turn off your car that the lights come on right after? if so thats how my 04 civic dome lights work. my honda key pad with the lock and unlock on it all i do is lock the door and they fade out. if i turn the car off and dont lock the door they have a timer for them to stay on for a while then they will fade off.

no these are separate lights that turn on/off with a button. should not be tied to anything. there was a problem like this with the older civics and it says to replace the unit. you can try to take it apart and see why its getting stuck.

Yes, what the above poster said is correct. The lights can only be turned on/off using a button and have nothing to do with the door (in other words, the lights don't turn on when a door is opened.)

I'm going to take it into the dealership tomorrow. Kinda disappointed I'm running into problems 3 days into owning a brand new Civic. I just hope the battery doesn't run out between now and when I can drive there.

battery will die. theyre 5w each bulb. just pop off the plastic cover and take the bulbs out (carefully with a glove or towel, they will be very hot).

Re: 2009 Civic Dome Lights ("Spotlights") won't turn off

So I ultimately took the car into the dealership and it turned out there was a "loose wire." They fixed it and now it works fine. Luckily, the battery didn't die by the time I got there.

Thanks for the tips everyone.
