TPSensor
TPSensor
I have a 2003 Honda Civic 45,000 miles and the check engine light just came on and the tranny started to shift at higher RPM's, and also I feel the downshifts, I took the the car to a local auto parts store and had it scaned and it said TPS sensor Bad? The Tranny doesn"t do it all the time but ever since the check engine light came on thats when it strarted. Do you think there is any relation in the two. Please Help!
Re: TPSensor
Probably so.. with the TPS sensor messed up it makes the whole car run funny for two reasons. 1. When the computer sees a faulty TPS it basically just ignores it and relies on its other sensors causing it to have some issues. 2. It starts to rely on the MAP sensor which doesn't respond very quickly.
Unfortunately the only way to fix it is to replace the whole throttle body. However, the good news is, you can do the labor yourself with just a few tools and some very basic knowledge.

Re: TPSensor
Let the car warm up. Pull the F/IC ECU fuse in the fuse panel under the hood. Its a 15 amp fuse. Leave it out for 15 ish seconds. Put it back in. Start the car with everything off, radio, ac, fan, lights etc. etc. Let the car idle for until the radiator fans cycle on and off twice. Turn car off, restart. Done.
Re: TPSensor
Any PGM FI honda can get it done when repairing anything with the computer, intake manifold, or throttle body. It relearns the engine idle speed to optimize engine idle characteristics.
WITH ALL LOADS OFF..(no a/c, no radio, lights etc.)
Let your car idle to reach operating temp. (cooling fans cycle twice)
Thats it!

Re: TPSensor
well with tps sensor problems, its best to just replace the whole throttle body and any sensors on it. just get the whole piece from junkyard or ebay its usually around $50 for a used one.
