I think I need new shocks, and bad.
Main symptom:
When I accelerate, I feel a jerk/thump and it feels like the front wheels are jerking forward. Conversely, if I swiftly release the pedal, the car jerks and feels like the wheels are moving back.
No it's NOT the engine mounts. I replaced all 5 with OEM and the engine/trany is well suported when I rev engine in neutral.
I thought it was my differential but now I'm thinkin differently. The car has original shocks and the left shock has lost it's oil. 123k on the shocks.
Is there any way to tighten the shocks and struts? Perhaps some bolts are loose.
Here's more info info if you're interested:

Re: I think I need new shocks, and bad.
****. Why the differential and not the shocks? And what part of the differential? The pin? I guess it's something I need to check. Sigh, time to pull the transmission again.
I forgot to mention that the previous owner ran into something which hit the oil pan. It pushed the left of the engine back, which resulted in a broken lleft bracket which holds the bolt that goes onto the left torque mount. I had to replace the bracket. I know you're thinking, "that probably screwed up the differential." But it could be just the shocks. I mean broken shocks give the same symptoms as I described above as I've read.
Also, there has been a persistent matalic rattle coming from the left shock area. And as I said before, the top of the shock was covered in oil.

How did you fix it? I mean, what replacement parts did you buy?

Update: Lol, everything just has to be really expensive, doesn't it? Koni's and Tokico = pricey. about 275 for a set of Tokico's, and a little more for Koni's. Sodding hell. Alternatives?

old shocks make the car bounce up and down several times when you hit a bump, it increases tire wear and can ruin tires by uneven wearing, you can bottom the car out driving over speedbumps, cornering feel wont be as tight, its like driving a pogo stick lol. get some tokicos and call it a day.

if it is the diff pin i am not sure if it is replaceable. you might need a diff. if you are going to tear the trans apart pull out the counter shaft and main shaft. then lift out the diff. there is a large silver pin going straight through it,,(you can miss it) take a look at the ends of it where it like sits in the diff... if the hole is oblong or it looks like its starting to crack....based on your symptoms i would say the hole should be oblong on one end,, man i wish i took pictures of mine this just happened to me about 2 months ago,, i had the same thing going on as you and then one day boom the pin snapped and blew a hole straight through the trans. post pictures if you do it good luck...

Re: I think I need new shocks, and bad.
nice, they mustve downgraded the shocks for my model. they felt like they were blown the first day i bought the car. my dad even made a comment later why does the rear end bounce up and down so much lol. on the 92 accord the shocks are still the originals and cornering is terrible, the ride is so bouncy and feels like its gonna roll at any time lol. when my oem civic shocks were done, it still was decently safe to drive, except my one blown drivers side ruined my tire to bald and the other 3 still had another 20k left to go.

i think it was starting 2001 when the civic started to turn bad. the 06+ models are way worse tho both in problems and build quality..
