93 civic 4 door EX engine swap now doesnt run...
hi, i recently had an engine put in my 93 civic, imported directly from japan with only 40,000 miles on it. i had it installed 70 miles away from where i live, that was the closest place that could do it. but after it was installed i picked it up and it ran fine the whole way home and then some! it just all the sudden crapped out on me at 107 miles.
wut could be the cause of this??? everything under the hood is brand new, so i dont know how this would happen. and since it doesnt run i cant get it back up there to have them look at it since its so far away, so please if u have any suggestions e-mail me asap!
-thank you

you need more a MUCH better description of your problem. your pretty much saying "my civic is broken, help". people on the forum do not have a magic crystal ball. exactly what motor is it? how did the motor "crap out" on you? did it blow u with a big bang and smoke? does it start? certain color smoke? certain noises? ETC. people will gladly help you here including myself, but we need to know those kind of things.
everything under the hood cant be brand new if you say it has 40k miles on it. contact the guy who sold you the motor first, hopefully he has a warranty of some type.

like i said it ran fine... then just died and wont start. no noises nothing! when i try to start it, it does everything normally just doesnt start like its outta gas... YES it does have gas. but since its a diffrent engine could it possibly be the ECU? i dont know to much about it like my name says im new to civics, so i dont know where to begin to look for problems. and i dont wanna take it to a machanic cuz they'll just start pulling out parts and replacing ones that dont need to be replaced you know.

So the motor still cranks or not really?
Check to see if your battery is charged, see what the plugs look like, are they new or old ones from old motor? Do you know if your getting fuel to the injectors or not? Any check engine lights on?

cars normally just dont shut off and die. tell us exactly what happened. if the car doesnt start and everything is fine its either fuel isnt getting in the motor or there is no spark. this actually just sounds like a loose connection though. did the car die while driving or did you shut it off and it wont turn on again?

And therein lays the problem: We can only assume, since OP hasn't even told us what the symptoms are. (i.e. if it cranks, turns on, dies after it's turning on)

well given the lack of info, i wouldnt put it past them.. however without coolant it probablly wouldnt have made it 107miles..
altho i would check for fluids.. then i would check electricals... altho a lot of people would check for spark first, then see if theres fuel, but not knowing the reputation of the shop involved, you really need to start from square one, does the battery work, is there oil in there, is there coolant, is the fuel pump going, are the injectors firing?
need more info, does it sound ok when you are cranking does it crank?

Re: 93 civic 4 door EX engine swap now doesnt run...
thanks for all your replys! all the fluids are full and freshly put in. when i drove it home it was fine, and then the next day it started fine but died on me when i was on the freeway! then about 5 minutes later started right back up... then on my way home it died again, then started right back up after 10 minutes. but the next day it started right up then died again and hasnt started since. and the battery is brand new so it couldnt be that. my friend looked at it and said it was getting fuel to the engine... but thats all he could help me with. he said its probably my ECU is bad, but i want to make sure that sounds like it could be the problem before i go out and spend $200 on an ECU and have that not be the problem. but you guys sound like your honda civic pro's so i want to get your take on wut it could be, either the ecu, or i've been reading alot of other forums and they said they had simalur problems and they replaced the ignition coil and started right up.

well your engine probably doesnt have ignition coils unless you put a k20 in there. like wannabfast said start from square one. the problem doesnt sound too serious, it just simply cant start. check all fuses and wiring. then check for your spark. just take out a spark plug and ground it out to something and check if there is a spark.

Before you do that though, what kind of plugs are you running? You should be running OEM NGK or Denso as listed in the glove box manual. If they put Bosch in there, then that may be your problem.

Oh I forgot to mention that when I had Bosch in my car, it died randomly on the road. It really sucked driving. Then it wouldn't start at all, but it would turn. The plugs became fuel-soaked due to improper spark.
