Master cylinder reservoir.

I looked at my fluid and not only was it low, but it's contaminated. It looks like "soot" is stuck to the side of it. This obviously needs to be changed but I don't understand why it doesn't mention this in any maintenance schedule. Strange.

Will I have to remove the master cylinder?

If I want to do a thorough cleaning, what should I clean it with? I imagine water is a bad idea but I'm not sure. I'm talking about the reservoir, not the cylinder itself.

How does this relate to the slave cylinder?

What symptoms does a dirty master cylinder cause?

Should I use Honda dot3 or is it all the same?

Re: Master cylinder reservoir.

no we use dot3. brake fluid flush is every 3 yrs, not dependent on mileage. you flush it out with new brake fluid and then bleed the system. get it done asap

Thanks but I'm not talking about the brakes, I'm talking about the clutch master cylinder which has it's own resevoir. I've already replaced brake fluid it's crisp and clear.

Re: Master cylinder reservoir.

no its diff, its like brake fluid but with a diff name (clutch fluid) and it disengages the clutch wjen the pedals pushed in. i would just drain the system and take off the reservoir clean it and refill everything and bleed.

Re: Master cylinder reservoir.

I was planning on doing the same. There is nothing mentioned in the Honda service manual about this procedure. I found this link, I think this is how it has to be done -
