cat back exhausts?

Hey guys i'm a little confused about what a cat back exhaust system really is... do you have to have a cat back system to install a new muffler? I wanted to get this:

http://www.procivic.com/pages-popup_...321/index.html

But when I was shopping around I saw cat back exhausts and it looks like it already has that kinda muffler on it? is it a better idea to invest in the cat back system?

Re: cat back exhausts?

catback exhausts come with a new muffler.

in your pic is just a muffler. If u buy that a muffler shop can custom make you some piping to fit it.

Re: cat back exhausts?

so you can't just buy a muffler and put it on stock you have to get special piping for it.... if i'm understanding right?

Re: cat back exhausts?

oh yeah I've been checking on ebay for the whole skunk2 cat back system. all of them say they are for the EX cut of the civic... but aren't the DX EX LX all the same thing except for different features on the inside?

Re: cat back exhausts?

the dx and lx are not the same as the EX. there are differences. the headers for the dx and lx have the catalytic converter built in and and the ex doesnt. so the ex exhaust wont bolt up properly.

Re: cat back exhausts?

There are not much choose out there for Dx/Lx owner. I can only think of Magnaflow, Apeix sw2, greedy sp2 out of my head.

If you want to use a Ex Cat-back, there are 2 options:

Swap the whole ehaust assembly to Ex set up

or

get a aftermaket header and downpipe

Re: cat back exhausts?

btw, i m a Lx owner, and I have chosen the 2nd option.

I got a DC header.
I'm going to get a cat-back system, bring it to a muffler shop to custom a downpipe for me.

Re: cat back exhausts?

damn that sucks then lol. I really liked the sound of the skunk2 muffler. I guess i'm goin to go with this one it was my next choice:

http://www.procivic.com/pages-produc...826/index.html

So from that link you sent me I have to change my header as well... what do you guys recommend for a good header?

and i'm guessing that your going with option 2 and losing some backpressure? Will the loss of backpressure be signifigant?

Re: cat back exhausts?

you up there^^

i have an lx with skunk2 exhaust...

all you need is ex header and downpipe. megan racing makes both for like 100 bucks each. cheap as nut but its really good stuff. i think my whole setup skunk2 catback, megan header and downpipe cost under 700. i love it.
