Someone smashed my brother's left side mirror on his 95 civic. It is a manual adjusting mirror.

I have included a pic of the back of the mirror. It looks to be intact so I am hoping all the assemblies located in the side mirror housing should be intact as well. I would appreciate if someone could explain to me if there is a special technique in assembling it back into the side mirror housing. I was giving it a try a few times as practice until I get a new one but I could not line up the joint pin with the spring swivel piece, which is located in the mirror housing. The service manual just states to install in reverse order after you remove it.
