Motomaster throttle body cleaner
Hey Folks,
I purchased a throttle body cleaner spray can from Canadian Tire, and I was wondering if anyone tried it or a similar product and proved to be effective.
Will it hard any electrical or my throttle body system? it says that it will dissolve any harmful oil and dirt and will not harm sealers or metals, rather will lubricate them.
As a second question to you techies, the can says to remove the entire housing until the throttlebody and spary it while the car is running.
if i don't remove the entire plastic air cover and just remove the air filter housing and spray from there, will it have the same effect?
I have a 6th generation honda civic si sohc vtec
Cheers and thks

Re: Motomaster throttle body cleaner
spray with the car running? I never do that. I always take the throttle body off and clean it. That way you can clean it better, plus while it's off you can take the IACV valve off it and spray that too. Will make your car idle better.
Re: Motomaster throttle body cleaner
So do I need to remove the entire plastic housing up untill the metallic throttle body? if so, if i also remove the IACV, should I worry about the hose clamp not working again or can I reuse one re installed?

Re: Motomaster throttle body cleaner
can reuse the heater hose clamps. take off the whole air box and then the throttle body. once its off the car, you can spray and wipe to get the whole thing clean. and the iac valve is bolted to the tb, its where the heater hoses go into. clean that too. then put it all back together and do the ecu reset (disconnect battery) and idle learn (let car idle for 10 mins without any accessories on).
Re: Motomaster throttle body cleaner
Ok so here isd what i have done. sorry did not read the last thread as i was too eager to start the job.
I took the air filter box, with the car off of course, sprayed some throttle body cleaner into the black hose going to the throttle body while opening the throttle fly (the car was still off at this point.)
put everything back together and tunrned the car on, hesitation, no start. tried again and the car was hesitating to start like it was a 100 year old car. It finaly started and i started playing with the throttle a bit so to give it a little power. the idle was at 1000rpm at this point.
drove the car and pushed the gaz pedal a bit, seemed to be faster, more responsive and i could on first gear push it to 3000rpm (which i couldn't do before).
is the hesitation normal at the beginning? i am afraid I f**k something off.the car seems running good so far. i turned it off and on again and it did not hesitation, the idle was at 750-800 rpm when stopped.
thks for your help

Re: Motomaster throttle body cleaner
yeah its just cause you sprayed all that liquid inside the hose and it takes a while to burn off/evaporate. should be fine now
