60,000 mi. maintainance

I was advised to have a fuel system cleaning and timing belt replaced at 60,000 mi. on my '03 EX. This was by a non-dealer mechanic. Fuel system cleaning is $85, is this necessary or is there a way to DIY cheaper? Any thoughts about the timing belt? I've seen some recommendations on line to replace from from 60,000-110,000. Is this a DIY? Thanks.

Re: 60,000 mi. maintainance

first of all welcome to the site. second of all, i think there were a few threads that already covered this. i remember seeing them when i was researching the 60k & 70K tune ups. i just had the fuel system flushed, no timing belt replacement. i also had it done at a honda dealership because i didn't want to give them any reason to even think about voiding my warranty - not that they would, just a precaution.

go buy lubecontrol.com gas additive and use that, will work better and cost less than any fuel system cleaning you will get.

^yea what he said.

buying LC20 and FP60 and using it often will be better for ur engine than having one big tune up. plus it'll save you some $$$

Timing belt not needed until 90-100k..........fuel system flush? haha ya right...any place that tries to sell you that is bull!!!! Get a bottle of fuel cleaner and dump it in your tank!

Timing belt @90K (inspect and replace if damaged before that)
First tune up is 110K (I call BS, but thats what Honda says).
Its all in the manual, and the schedule is available in copy form from the dealer.
