If you're not too comfortable doing it, then I suggest you probably shouldn't. I probably spent the last 2 months straight researching on what I wanted to do with my car. Found all the DIYs and forums I could find to anticipate any problems I might have. I just wanted to let you all see the steps and difficulty involved. It really is pretty easy, and as you stated, all you really have to do is "grow some ballz" and do it. The only 'hard' parts were removing the trim on the dash and the actual putting on of the gauge faces. You just have to trust the trim wont break, and by the time I got to the needles, I was just like "F it. I got this far and I'm not just gonna give up just cause the face wont slide 'easily' onto the needles." Though you are risking spending another $500 if you mess up the gauge cluster, you get so much more satisfaction doing it yourself rather than giving $50 to a 'pro'.
I'm planning on a few more DIYs by the end of summer. Will be putting on my OEM spoiler when it comes in the mail (scheduled arrive date 4/9), changing my tail lights, shaving my emblems, installing some fog lights, and clearing my corners. The only things I wouldnt trust myself to do is 'major' stuff like wiring up a new alarm and stereo system and dropping my ride. Just take your time and do your research. I've been looking into clearing my corners for over a month now and I'm still a bit wary on it. I probably wont be able to do it until the end of April anyway. Need to get a free weekend...(so expect pics then!)

<< Umm when you buy most guages, you can just slip them over your old ones......no need to mess with the needles.... >>

That is true for most imports....however it doesn't work that way for the 7thgen civics. The needles must be removed.

For a senior member you don't know too much...

I repeat.......you DO NOT need to remove the needles

All you have to do is SLIDE them around/over the needles....

Let me quote myself yet again....

<< 6. Now its time to put on the gauges. This is actually pretty easy but you do need to be careful. I would recommend not removing the needles. Some people say they had no problems after removing the needles, but I hear if 'calibration' on the needles are messed up, you need to buy yourself a new cluster. There goes $500. nono; It doesn't really which face you put on first. Might wanna do the right side since there is a extra (odometer) hole to work with. Work with the big needle first. Slide the face on until it reaches the black part in the center. You will notice hole doesn't seem big enough. Slide the face under the black part, and you will gain a little more room, but still not enough. Now, I just forced the needle through the hole. The needles actually feel pretty strong, but you still would want to be as gentle as possible. Do the same for the other needles. And don't worry about moving the temp and gas needles (clockwise). They actually have an internal 'stop' so it shouldn't drop further (counter-clockwise) than 'factory settings.' I decided not to test the strength of the 'stop' incase it wasn't that strong. >>

I worked hard to do this DIY and to give advice/help for the 7th genners here. To have you just say it shouldnt be done when you obviously did not read the DIY nor my reply to your original post is rather.....annoying to say the least.

This is my last post....
I was just trying to give advice that was given to me from someone I know who has worked on car dashes for over 20 years. With his experience, I trusted his opinion. I also watched him put the guage faces on mine and I could tell by the shape of the needles and the hole on the guage faces that it was impossible to put them on w/o seriously bending or messing up the guage faces. You didn't need to get so offensive.

oblivious9: You seriuosly don't know what the hell you're talking about.

That guy who has been working on gauges for over 20 years is stupid too...

YOU CAN SLIP THE FREAKIN GAUGES ON OVER THE NEEDS! YOU JUST FLEX THE GAUGES AND SLIP THEN UNDER THE NEED AND AROUND TO THE CENTER AND THEN DROP EM DOWN! Sheesh freakin newbie morons

You guys do know that it depends on what kind of gauges you get that determines if you need to remove tha needles or not....
As far as I know, most of them you can just slip over tha needles with the exception of the APC Speed-Glo gauges which you "have" to remove the needles.

btw.. kre, you inspired me to get some... i installed them 2 nights ago and they are sweet as hell.. so easy to install with your DIY.. took bout an hour to do them.. plus i used the wire tap from radio shack.. 18-22 gauge works well for the tap. Also.. i got mine off of ebay and they came with double sided tape for all 4 gauge sections cut in a circle.. real sweet.. thanks man

PeArlHoNdA - I dont know what 'page 5' you're talking about. I only have 2 pages in this thread Here's the link to the one I bought through AutoDynamic
