8th Gen Factory subwoofer Replacement
8th Gen Factory subwoofer Replacement
Does anyone know whether or not you can drop in an aftermarket 8 inch sub into the back deck, replaceing the one that came from the factory? I wouldnt want to replace any of the wiring or change anything except the speaker. Im thinking of the 8 inch sub from MTX but im just throwing around ideas.
Re: 8th Gen Factory subwoofer Replacement
Correct me if i am wrong, but from what i can tell, the factory kit is two 6.5" subwoofers, not a single 8". That being said, the subwoofers pictured by honda appear to be of Free-air design (a subwoofer that does not require an enclosure). I personally do not know of any 6.5" free-air subwoofers from aftermarket companies. I will search though.
Re: 8th Gen Factory subwoofer Replacement
Found a 6.5", free-air capable, subwoofer from a company called Elemental Designs. I never heard of this company, so be cautious.

Re: 8th Gen Factory subwoofer Replacement
Regardless if its 8'' or not you going to run into problems. Most factory subwoofers have a odd ohm reading that no aftermarket will match. If you replace with a 2 or 4 ohm sub you will either a) fry the new sub or b) fry the factory amp (most likely what will happen). I would advise just disconnecting the factory sub and add your own set of amp(s) and subwoofer(s) <---- Not as clean but you will run into less problems that way.
Re: 8th Gen Factory subwoofer Replacement
I was worried about it being a free air sub, what an odd design. I think ill just leave it alone, thanks for the input. I could throw the tens that I had in my truck in there but I want to keep the trunk space. I was lookin for a nice compromise but I guess stock is good enough. Less ear damage that way, ha ha.
Re: 8th Gen Factory subwoofer Replacement
elemental designs is a good compan. they make good subs for the money.lots of spl cars run their stuff.and i thought that the rear sub had a plastic tub enclosure.if so then a simple swap would do.most subs run at 2 or 4 ohm but ive seen 8 ohm too.stock and aftermarket stereos run 4 to 8 ohms so if you just find the info on ohmage and then wire them correctly then yeah it will work.
