Timing problems on 87 1.5 si

I need help bad! I have a 87 1.5 si and I replaced a exhaust valve. I put it back together using the timing marks as shown in the book and I have to advance the timing all the way just to get it to hit. however it only hits on 3-4 , 1-2 are dead.

Hmm. From what I remember on my 87 CRX, you have to plug the vacuum advance (off the dizzy) line when you're adjusting the timing. Admittedly mine was the 3 bbl HF (I think, maybe HX) not the Si, but its probably similar. I don't know if that helps you at all as its been over 4 years since I owned my Rex. Try searching on your engine code (D15, D16, etc....) and timing on d-series.org, they may have some info for you.

Re: Timing problems on 87 1.5 si

something in the timing isnt right. might be rotor button, plugs cross wired, or timing marks 180 out. check all those. look on google for firing order and distributor rotation for your engine.

Re: Timing problems on 87 1.5 si

Took me for ever to get it but it wasn't the timing at all. there is a vent hose that goes into the top of the carb float bowl. some how I hooked it to live vacum on 1-2 port side of the intake. It was sucking fuel and washing down the spark. I pulled the dipstick and the oil smelled like fuel so I started to tracking that down and found my mistake. thanks for the help!! Michael
