Car won't idle!

Hey guys, maybe someone can give me a hand i am having trouble with my car's idle. it idles at about 600 rpm. i tried to raise the idle to about 1000 rpm by adjusting the tiny screw at the throttle body and it works, sort of,...but only when the car is warm. when its cold it goes up to about 1500 and its starting to **** me off!!!

not to mention it has a small miss-fire that i can't figure out. it only does it when its idleing, and when i accelerate it doesn't miss-fire, but the acceleration is rather sluggish. i think it might be the injectors or maybe the spark plugs...let me know any suggestions!

Doesnt the car adjust its idle when it's cold? I know theres no actual choke, but this is whats bumping the idle up.

My car never had a problem misfiring but it did have a problem where it would idle at 600, but then it would suddenly drop to about 250rpm and shudder, then recover.

the car is supposed to idle at 600 rpm when it's warm. it's also supposed to idle higher when it's cold, this is to warm the engine up faster.

me 2

the car idels higher when its cold to get the engine to operating temp faster.
thats normal

your car should not be backfiring! the one mod that can make your car back fire is an exhaust that doesn't provide any backpressure. what mods have you done?

You got it. There are basically 2 idles for the Civic, cold idle, usually around 1,200RPM and then there the idle when its warm which is usually around 600rpm. Don't go messing with screws that you think are idle adjustments. You probably adjusted a fuel/air mixture screw. If you didn't know that much about idle, I highly doubt that you know what you are doing when it comes to making tuning adjustments.

Yea, I wouldn't go playing with any screws. Just take it in to the dealer and have em fix it.

the engine idle is supposed to be anywhere from 600-700 and usually a cold engine idles at about 1500 till it warms up then it goes down, if i was you i wouldnt mess with the idle speed screw, it just makes things more complicated, there really isnt any reason for you to be doing it, i found that out by experience, it doesnt do anything big for your speed but it does lower your gas mileage

Idle Air Bypass Valve. Maybe faulty or depending on your kilometers it's all gunked up.
