Changing out headlights (bulbs)
Hello everyone! I am new to this site, and this is my first post here so I look forward to meeting new people and working on my Civic. Ok, enuf *** kissing. I have a 2005 Civic, and the headlight went out. This is the second time. I know its normal. But last time I tried to change it, I almost ripped my arm off. I took it to Pep Boys and they installed it for me for $10 a bulb. Not that thats expensive, but I would rather do it myself. I asked a few other people and they also mentioned that its pretty difficult. Is it really that hard? Or is there a trick that I am not aware about. I have yet to get a Hayes manual, and until I get one, I will just ask around. Thanks in advance

turn the plastic piece of the bulb counter-clockwise to remove and then clockwise to tighten...
I remember changing mines too.. it is kind of hard because if you have big hands, it's a little harder to get into the tight space

Hey thanks for your quick response! I already like this site (something new to do during work). I thought I tried that last time but it didn't work. I remember reading somewhere that the entire headlight unit had to be removed to access the bulb, but it still didn't work. Will have to try that.

Ur welcome and you don't have to remove the WHOLE Headlight Housing. It is possible to just stick ur hands behind the housing and turn them. But removing the housing is another way
Just remove the connector and rotate socket 45 degrees ccw and it will pull out. Be glad you don't have an 01 to 03 with the stupid clip thing and rubber cover. But I guess it all washes out since the 01-03 only have one bulb to worry about.
Blowing bulbs on a 05 though, hmm. Wasn't there a recall for headlights? Or was that older years, or even the wife's Accord?

its pretty easy to do yourself, just not alot of room to work with.
I usually unclip the connector from the bulb, then push down on the connector piece with a flat head screw driver to get it off, then unscrew the bulb from the housing. Theres also a fluid tank that you can move over to give you some extra room, think its on the right side, for the right headlight.

its very easy to remove your headlights. It took me about 30 seconds to do it yesterday. If you have big hands, just remove your battery for more room. You don't really need to remove the battery, but it gives you more room.
That's the power steering resevoir you are taking about.

you can also try lifting up the power steering reservoir and moving it off to the side a little bit so you can get more room. like everyone else says just make sure you disconnect the wireharness first otherwise you'll have a hard time taking the bulbs out. just twist counter-clockwise and it should unlock and you can pull it out, just be sure to be wearing latex gloves or be very careful not to touch the actual bulb with your bare hands, atleast be careful not to touch the bulbs on the replacement ones.

Hey guys, I just changed my bulbs this weekend. It was quite easy. I didn't have much room to work with, but moving the reservoir tank helped out. I want to thank everyone for their help and prompt responses. I already love this place! I will be visiting here often, and posting pictures of my car. btw, I made a small mistake. Its not an 05, its an 04. I don't know how that slipped.
