Center Dash LED conversion

Does anyone have the link for this DIY that actually works?
i searched all last-night but never found the specific one i was looking for.
i generally remember how its done, but if i recall correctly i need a resistor of some sort wired in also - and i dont remember how that was done.

thanks in advance!!
rep maybe?

ya i had to put alot of resistor to dim it later cause it was outshining the whole dash and blinding me the first night. and they are actually dark orange leds not amber.

heres the basic idea

susuking is on a distinguished road
^^ here is the deal. you can use two resistors. if you want to be safe, just calculate the required resistance to make it work, or if you are lazy, just use 3 1000ohm resistors, that would usually work, but no guarantees

i also put more resistor on the red power wire going to the dash piece. but you need to calculate the minimum you need not to blow the leds.

ok, so i had to go the lazy way
im limited on $$ and blue LED's are like 3.50 each - so i bought 6, and did the 2 lights for the *****, and 2 for the 3 buttons on the bottom.
I used 220ohm resistors for each light (too much maybe?) They dont look very bright at all, but its still daylight outside, so we'll see how well they lightup at night.

i'd say either 3mm or 5mm LEDs. The only difference between the 2 is the size..and how bright they are...the 3mm LEDs are almost as bright as the 5mm ones are, but they are a little cheaper, and the leads(the LED pins) are a little closer...not a big deal, but if the holes are meant for 5mm LEDs then the 3mm ones will stick up a little bit.

OMG!!! did they come with some KY? you can get 100 LED's off ebay for $14 shipped. that's $0.14 each.

i'm wanting to do mine in red, but i don't want them to be bright. i drive a lot at night on dark roads and the blue from my HU is very annoying. i want to redo all my dash lights with red so it's easier on the eyes.

where are you getting the voltages? the LED's you linked to will be ~3.4v each. 4 in series would be ~13.6v so theoretically you don't even need a resistor. you'd actually put in numbers like this:

Total LEDs= 4
LED Voltages= 3.4
LED Current (mA)= 20 (safer current)
Total Voltage= 14.4 (approx with car running)

and that returns:

Series REsistor 39 Ohms
.016 watts

make sense?
