Quick headlight bulb question

sorry if i posted in the wrong thread, still new at this. but anyways, my friend just gave me a pair of jspecR halogen headlight bulbs that he bought for his corolla Xrs, but some guys told him that the wire harness on his car cant handle the heat from these bulbs and thus burning them, i was wondering if my car (05 sedan DX) would be able to handle them?

heres a link i found on ebay of the bulbs he gave me:
eBay.ca: JDM JSPEC-R HIR Halogen Super White Light Bulbs 9006 (item 250053669334 end time 19-Jan-07 19:34:45 EST)

the only way it will damage your harness is if you run a higher wattage bulb than stock. if you do run higher wattage, over time it will ruin the harness. you can prevent it by buying an upgraded harness. i think they go for around 20 bucks or so but dont quote me on that.

thats about the price i thought it was and its a great insurance policy. the harness on my dodge ram melted down and caught fire. for some reason it didnt pop the fuse and i had to drive 40 miles in the dark after i put the fire out.

I can tell you now, that your wasting your money. Ricer bulbs are not worth it. They'll blow out in a few months from now. Stock oem bulbs last for years. Ricer bulbs don't make much of a difference with lighting either.

If you want more light output, get an HID kit.

btw, its not the watts the bulbs produce that's important, its the lumens that counts.

Dont get Sylvannia Silverstars, those blow out like once a year. If you do not want to fork out the money for an HID kit then go with the Osram Silverstar Bulbs instead. Much better light output and lasts fairly long compared to the Sylvannia's. But I'd definetly suggest saving up and getting the HID kit. It uses les Wattage so you dont have to fiddle around with the wiring harness and spending the extra money just to put stupid bulbs in.

But bear in mind that HID bulbs are illegal in Halogen bulb housing in some states. But you shouldn't have a problem if you get a kit with bulbs less that 4500.

Osram is Sylvania. The company name is Osram Sylvania, so those would be the same product (ie. they'll blow just as often).

don't waste your time with those plug in adapters. that's only a bandaid. that's not going to protect the rest of the headlight wires in the rest of the circuit. those bulbs you linked to are 80w bulbs. that's going to put another 2+A of current draw through the entire stock wires circuit. eventually it's going to damage the stock wires. i did some 80w 9006 bulbs in my wife's Lexus before I really knew the danger. i wound up having to repair about 2 feet of wiring in the harness after it melted from the excessive current draw. i'm doing an HID retro in my civic now. i'm going to run 100w H1's in the high beams. those are 45w higher than the stock bulbs so almost 4A extra. because of this, i'm running a totally seperate harness with a 30A relay to power them. that's the only safe way to do it is a new complete harness with new relays.

the color temp has little to do with it being legal or not. if you are implying that a 4500k light is less bright than a 12000k, you are wrong. its simple physics...increase absorbancy, decrease transmittance. A white HID will be much brighter than a deep purple HID

i don't think he was saying that at all. at least i didn't take it that way. i took it as a 4500k or less bulb will be less likely to draw attention from the cops. PNP kits are garbage. if you want HID's do a full retro. that's what i'm doing. in a couple weeks, i'll have TSX projectors on my vic!!!
