Ignition system in our D17?
Hi, I need to gather what i can about the stock D17 ignition sytem...
As far as i know it's a distributorless system that uses (as one post i read) 4 coil packs, and this means that it's eather a reguler 4 coils or a COP(coil-on-plug) setup... I would appreciate ANY question answered:
* How many coil packs does the system has? and if it's 4 coil pack, is it COP?
* How does the system identify TDC? is it by using a TDC sensor? and what it's kind(VR, Hall, Optical, etc...)?
* Is this TDC sensor fitted at the crank OR camshaft?, and how many teeth do the trigger wheel infront of it has?
* How many wires is connected to this sensor? is one of the wires connected to a GROUND source?
Any of the question answered will save a trip and question at the junkyard...
any help appreciated thank you

yes we have COP, the four litle black things below the wire cover are the coils, take those two botls off and they pull right off. as far as TDC? i dont know what that means, except it might be top dead center sensor? but i cant help you with that, sorry.
as to your question yes it means Top Dead Center... in order to identify where TDC point occurs, a fixed sensor and a (rotating) trigger wheel that is placed at the crank OR cam OR sometimes both must be placed... this is used by the system so that you can advance/retard timing based on that point, i need to verify what kind of sensor and trigger wheel our D17 uses... thanks to your help though
good information burnin rubber. i have never heard of a sensor called that. i did a little searching myself, and i found this website http://hondaswap.com/reference-mater...pinouts-28667/ not sure if this is what you want or not.

1.) Has 4, yes its COP
2.)Yes, uses TDC sensor. Don't know what kind though. If I had to guess, I'd say optical.
3.)TDC sensor is on the camshaft. If you can get a picture of a cam gear (AEM or stock), from the back, you could see it. I think there's 2 or 3.
4.)Don't recall, would have to reference my d17 bible which I don't have.
Also, 2002civicLX2002 this is the ECU Pinout's for the early obd-2 system like integra's, etc..., as far as i figured out from it... two diffrent TDC applications connect to the ECU, but i can't take it for granted, thank you for your time 2002civicLX2002
skipbarber what your talking about is probebly the wiring of the coils to either an ignition module OR the ecu.... what i'm talking about is the wiring of the sensor and how many wires connected to it and if there is a ground source connected to the sensor so i can identify it's type... I would really appreciate it if you check that
