huge problems with swap and vafc-ii
ok, so i got a vtec head a while back for my head swap, but then i bent the rods in my a1 and decided to pull the whole motor. well i found an a2 for $400 so i swapped it in. decided not to swap ecus because the one from the car i got the a2 out of was an auto and i wasnt going to search for one. all connections worked fine except for anything vtec related. installed my vafc-ii and now im having a few problems. i just got the car running at about 10pm and it idles fine, but my redline is at about 3500 and when it hits high cam it sputters like a son of a bitch. i know its probable something out of whack with the vafc-ii but i dont have a user manual or anything for it so im pretty much stuck. ive also got a CEL but i wont know what that is until i go get it checked tomorrow. anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to raise the redline and why it sputters after crossover?

the redline is a safe mode function. For some reason it doesnt like something. My guess is the LX ecu is looking for one number, and the EX engine has a different parameter, therefore its disagreeing and shutting the motor down. OR, you got a bad sensor in the junk yard motor. Scan the code, start there. Wiring is always an issue. as far as the crossover sputter, you're gonna need to just get the thing tuned so it crosses over smoothly, or find a VTEC ecu.

i got a pdf version of the manual and its a pain in the ***. im thinking i didnt do something right in the learning functions. im going to go screw around with it for a minute. if anyone has a step-by-step setup that has done a a2 head swap with vafc-ii, i would appreciate it.

but what is the AFC reading it off of? If you have no MAP pressure reading then there's you're limp mode right there. But you need to see what the ECU is reading for MAP pressure. Get a scan tool with realtime streaming and plug it in.

p0107 is the code. low map sensor input. im going to check the wiring and swap map sensors and see if it clears it. i also went to kinkos and printed an instruction manual so i can have it out there with me.

ok back to the land of problems. idle is surging and ive got 3 codes. the first one it pulled twice. p0507 idle control system rpm high. the other is p2279 intake air system leak. i figure the second one is a vacuum leak somewhere and thats causing an idle surge. gonna swap out all sensors tomorrow. anyone got any input?

FYI that "hit" you speak about isnt what you think. what's happening is that your power is flat until the changeover point you feel that boost of power. Its fun to "feel" the VTEC engage but ultimately useless. Get it on a dyno after you get it running right so you can lock in the proper engagement point.

the IAC valve could be either unplugged or stuck, check the wiring and tap on it with the car running, if it idles better, replace it.

shes running fine now. cleared the codes and drove it around all day. i do notice when i stop the diel stays about 1500-2000 for a second before it calms down. im happy with it right now.
I got in a wreck about 2.5 months ago and just now was able to get my car started due to a dead battery. My car (2001 EX) is having the same problem with idle. It didnt have the problem before. I did have problems starting the thing. Once I got it started I just drove it around awhile and it seems when the car warms up it starts happening. When I come to a stop the idle hits 1000 and then jumps to 1500 back to 1000, repeats once more, and then goes to what it was before the car was wrecked. Is there a code that your car is throwing for your dilemma, just so I can get some idea (another of many) of what my car is doing. To clarify I got hit in my drivers side rear quarter panel so I dont see the wreck having an effect on the idle.
