clearing headlights without taking off bumper?

I did a search to find out everything I could about clearing the headlights before I actually did it. I know it says in the DIY to take off the bumper to do it but somebody posted something that said he takes his headlights out all the time and you don't have to take off the bumper. Has anybody else cleared their headlights without actually taking the bumper off?? Or should I just listen to the DIY and be safe.?

there is no way of removing the healdights without removing the bumper, because there are 2 bolts that holds the headlight in to the body behind the bumper. uless, ofcourse, you have magical hand plus, taking the bumper off isn't an hassle, i took it off 3 times already, and it usually takes less than 10 in, if u have the right tools and know where all the bolts are

Quick and easy way to clear w/o taking off the bumper...

All you will need is a hard blunt object...(i.e. hammer)...Bash open casing and remove color insert...Use whatever scotch tape or clear tape that may be layin around...if need be...don't be afraid to apply some glue...just make sure it's clear...You don't wanna go to all that work only to add a colored glue!!!

Hope this helps!!!

BTW...I'm retarded and don't do what I said...L8r peeps

U actually do NOT have to take off the whole bumper, just the top part and scoot it forward. Be careful not to scratch up the sides of your car tho and have an extension available to get that bottom bolt.

yeah the bumper removal is the easiest part! allow your self at least 6 hrs from start to finish though the damn headlights are a bitch to pry apart then allow a few hours for the silicone to dry, do two coats. 24hrs would be better, the damn bumper takes like 5 -10 mins.

I keep hearing that people can't get their bumpers back on straight or aligned. That's why I'm weary of taking mine off.

you dont have to take it completely off, when u take the clips and the bolt in the wheel well off u can "peel" the bumper back so u can get to the bolts that hold the lights in.

I think the worst part about this DIY is the potential problem of your headlights fogging up... How cold does it have to get before they start to fog, and does it really do any damage or is it just annoying?

Yeah I'm not worried about the DIY. I'm getting projectors anyway but I will probably have to aim those. Oh man, there's no free lunch.

The bumper is the easiest part, Getting the headlight apart is another story. The look is worth the work though

6 easy steps to follow...
1) remove bumper (damn it, Jim!!! it's just screws)
2) remove clips for the headlamp
3) from the pointed corner, use a box cutter to remove the black gooey stuff. Once you pry apart a little piece of the headlamp, slowly yank the clear piece from there. (Don't break it)
4) to remove the yellow piece from the clear lens, insert a screw driver from where the bulb is supposed to go and push. (You'll see what I mean... it's just clipped on) Done!! all cleared...
5) before you put everything back together, clean the lens from the inside and then you're done
6) last but not least, clean your hands before you drive your precious car

warning : DO NOT TOUCH THE CHROME PIECE WITH YOUR DIRTY HANDS!!

Yep those are good steps I pushed out the tabs and took a little chrome out on the other side but not too noticeable. They have been over a week and no leaking so hopefully I will be all right washed the car this week too and the heat here in AZ has been hot so that should help getting the stuff hot and sealing what didn't seal. But well worth the work, but those 1-6 steps are a quick over view that I can totally relate to. Got my PIAA Xtreme Blinkers in tonight they look sweet, now just getting my Parking light bulbs back from PIAA under warranty.
