Make your own. Either cut off the plug and extend it with wire, or wire up another cigarette lighter plug in the dash where its out of sight and just plug in the radar detector.

Rep Power: 291 Get a second cord/plug, and do as suggested above, or like I said, leave the cord as is, and hide an outlet in the dash and plug it in there so it looks hardwired. Maybe I'm missing something, anyone else have any ideas??

no no no ok look the whole purpose of this forum wasnt mounting location or ideas how to wire im just looking for another cord so can hard wire it but im looking for a store that sells them so i dont have to order it online

Rep Power: 291 Well, obviously no one has heard of a hardwire cord. Buy a second cord from the manufacturer, ebay or anyone of a hundred other sites that sell radar detectors. 
Have you tried calling Autozone, etc. or asking your friends that actually live where you do what stores sell radar detectors?? Maybe online yellow pages like yellowpages.com or switchboard.com?? The purpose of this forum is not to have people find stuff for you. Have you even tried what I've just suggested?? And why the hell wouldn't you want to buy it online.

Rep Power: 264 You could just use a phone cord. Inner two pins are power, reference your Escort power adaptor for 12V and ground. The two outer pins are the mute, if you put a SPST switch in between the two wires you can mute the radar with the touch of a button.

Rep Power: 264 Grab any phone cord you have laying around and then compare it to the end of the power plug for your 8500 X50. Looks pretty similar, no? There is no voltage converter in the cigarette plug, it just passes thru 12V. Here's the deal, each of the two ends of the phone cable is different, on one side pin2 is red and pin3 is green. On the other, pin2 is green and pin3 is red.
So, you have to test your 8500 X50 cord to see if pin2 is 12V and pin3 is ground or if it is the other way around. Just grab your handy DMM, plug the cigarette plug in, and test those pins without the radar detector attached. If my memory serves me correct pin2 is 12V and pin3 is ground (viewed from the back of the plug with tab on top, pin 1 is left, pin 4 is right) but I would certainly test to find out for sure. I have done multiple escort hardwires this way. (7500, 8500, S2)
It is more difficult to test to prove that the outside pins (1 and 4) act as mute when a switch is placed in series between them. However, I submit to you if the power works out as I've stated it would be very easy to set your radar off in front of a walmart and touch the yellow and black together to see if it mutes the radar detector.
You'll be much happier paying $4 for a phone cord that does everything Escort's $30 cord does. Also, I'd recommend a black phone cord but I once had to e-tape up the 6 or so inches of an exposed white cord. Good luck!

Hey thanks for the above info, I followed those instructions and hardwired mine today. I just compared the phone cord to the cord that came with the detector to see which wires are which and put an inline fuse on it because theres a fuse in the regular cord that plugs into the cig lighter. I have a beltronics but its pretty much the same cord. Thanks!

Rep Power: 264 Congrats man, glad to hear you were willing to go out there and actually try it. Your comment on the fuse is very true, I completely disregarded it for some reason. You're also right that it works for a number of radar detector brands.
