tach not working

i have a dx wich does not have a tach so i bought a cheep one just to have well it worked then stoped so my friend gave me a differnt one and i can get it to light up but its not reading anything and it was working when we took it out of his car does any one know wich wire to run the green wire from the tach to...

not off hand, but i would guess one that runs to the distributor for the rpm signal?

which one did you originally run it to when you had your first tach? it should still go to that one? is the wire behidn the headlight?

buy EX 01-02 gauge cluster off ebay and swap it in. its prolly cheaper than the tach you bought.

if i get and ex gauge cluster will the tach actuly be there because when i take mine out i only have 2 plugs that plug into the top of the cluster and i know the ex has 3 so will it be plug n play or will i have to get some sort of sending unit because thats what i wanted to do in the first place but didn't think it would work....thanks

there are only two plugs for any 01-05 gauge cluster. it has been done, people with dx have swapped for 01-02 lx/ex cluster with no problem. now if you want the new led lit clusters from 03-05 ex, it will still work you just have to do some rewiring. but for the older style you dont have to.
