2002 Honda Civic EX timing belt change

Hi, just got a 02 Civic EX coupe with 90,000 miles on it. All highway miles and WELL taken care of. All documents showing work done. the manual says like 110,000 miles for timing belt change. What is people's thoughts on this. Should I do it soon or wait till scheduled maintenence time? Also what does it cost to get this done?? I know Jetta Diesels are not fun. thanks, CC

if you take your car to Honda, they'll replace your tensioner, timing belt and water pump all together. but then they'll charge you around $500 or so for the service.

I have a couple buddies that are good mechanics but don't do import cars.... If I get the parts and the detailed instructions you think they could do it? The dealer will get ya with premium price I'm sure. I am ok mechanically but don't want to mess with this, too important. Any suggestions on that?? thanks.

If you buy a service manual for $80 it gives you step by step instructions on how to replace it. If you go that route you'll still save money and have a service manual for future repairs.
