vtech problem help..........
vtech problem help..........
Help guys, I need vtech.
My dealer told me I had it when I bought the car, but I cant feel it at all.
My car is so slow its ridiculous. When I go up to 7100 RPM, it just feels like the car takes a dump on me. And even up til then, I cant feel the jolt that vtech gives.
Its a d17a1 in an 01 lx civic. What do I need to do to obtain vtech in my car so I can pull all the way up to 7500 rpm?
TIA

since your other thread got locked while i was replying, ill post it here :
maybe if you spelled 'vtec' right you'd get better results. And maybe if you searched and posted in the right forums your threads wouldn't get locked. The Tech Chat and DIY section is not the place to bitch about why your thread got locked.
There's a section on how to use the forum, I suggest you find that.
And dp_yz713 is right, everyone's had threads closed and whatever, get over it, your a big boy. Streetglower also makes a good point, there has been a string of newcomers lately who ask questions that were asked and answered thoroughly years ago. To maximize the efficiency of the search button, those threads need to be closed. Would you want to sift through hundreds of useless threads to find an answer? I didn't think so.

I will say agin what I said in the last thread. You own a honda. Hondas arent fast. Hondas have no pick up. they are made for fuel economy. vtec isnt a turbo, when it kicks in, you arent going to be thrown back in your seat and shot down the road. **** for 122,543 miles that I have owned my civic, I have never once stomped on the gas and felt any jolt. I have never felt anything but the car trying to go a bit faster. have to live with it.
See this is what im talking about, people always want to crack on someone and stroke their own egos when someone that doesnt know any better asks a simple question... Isnt awnsering someones question simpler and less offensive? If a person were to ask me something I know alot about, I wouldnt flame on him for simply wanting to know about it... And since this is my first Honda, I dont know what the hell is the difference between spelling VTEC like its supposed to. You guys obviously have nothing else better to do than to wake up and get on your crappy site, and rack up 3,000 posts and ****.
All you guys can kiss my ***, just make sure you lick my ******** when you are done.

Ok you want an answer.. I'll give ya one
A D17A1 is a NON-VTEC motor. This means it has no VTEC solenoid, no VTEC camshaft, no VTEC ECU. Therefore it is NON-VTEC. The dealer was wrong when he/she told you it did have VTEC. To put VTEC into your car you will need an EX VTEC head or as you like to say a D17A2 head and either the EX ecu which you would have to get reflashed at the dealership or an Apexi VAFC2 (Google that to find out what it is).
Adding VTEC will not allow you to "pull" up to 7500 rpm because rev limiters on both engines are at 68-6900 roms. You might say "NO, I do rev to 7k rpms!" NO your tach is off. Also, VTEC in our cars is not as aggresive as it was in say the B16,B18,H22 motors. Its more economy VTEC than anything.
Google searching will help you out alot as well searching the site.. Go past the 1st and 2nd pages.. theres more! Have a nice day!

Ok I'm going to help this guy out before he gets killed on here. Even if you had an EX (d17a2= vtec) not vtech... you wouldn't be revving to 7500. We do not have acura motors we can only rev to 7000 grand and sometimes I can hit 7200. Honestly we lose power after like 6800 i think so you don't wanna be up there unless you have cams/valves and springs.

Ok, ok, in all seriousness it does, if you get a car with true vtec, which we don't have. There's only about 4 cars that have it: the 6thgen si, nsx, stook, and rsx-s
BWHAHAH You're just as bad... there's no such thing as an "Acura motor"

do some resurch on that "vertion 3 vtec"
Vertion 1 Vtec (the H22) has a very very different cam profile! Way more agressive!
That is why you dont feel vtec kick in..
Good Luck!
