Need help on neon wiring in trunk! Won't turn on when it's supposed to!

So I'm wiring my neon in my trunk and I was running the power off of the trunk light, figuring that when i open the trunk, the trunk light AND neon go on at the same time. Well it didn't come on when I opened the trunk, and I couldn't figure out what was up. So I look in when my trunk is closed and theres the neon, glowing like it should be. So i pop the trunk again to see if it works and it shuts off. So basically it's working the OPPISITE way it should. What'd I do wrong?

the neon i bought only has a power and ground wire and thats it. so i just tagged them right on to the power and ground that runs to the trunk light. i dont get whats up, ive tried different grounds, differnt amp fuses, its weird.

You prolly got a bad tube! it came with a cig lighter attachement right!? try hooking up to other stuff to see if it works! Get a dc test light or use a multitester or a volitmeter- and test your light wires!or just start touch each of the two trunk wires to metal to see which one is hot! itll only cost ya a fuse! Or it could be that you are just too GIIIZZZAHEY for the task at hand! better stick to basket weaving!Dakota

like i said, try switching the power and ground wire... cause i'm guessing the trunk light is similar to the dome light. it's a - and not a +. this one other guy was gettin the opposite effect to but thats cause it was a - wire. so try switching it and it should work.
