Seperating trans mainbody from torque converter housing?
Hello all,
I am rebuilding the trans from my 01 civic lx, automatic.
I am trying to separate the main boday of the trans from the torque converter housing and im not having much luck.
the manual lists a specific puller and part number, which i cannot find anywhere.
I have 1st gear apart and rebuilt within specs but cannot get into the main housing.
Anyone have any experience rebuilding one of theese autos? any tips on getting it apart? I may just weld something up to get it apart.
any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Ok, so i started designing my own tool to accomplish this task. I was up last night with angle iron, the welder and grinder. Ill let everyone know how it works out. Ill even post pics if it works, and if it dont, ill post a transission-less civic for sale
Thanks,
Mike

sweet! pics would help! my tranny recently died, and i also have the TCI auto Master OVerhaul kit.
My uncle is a mechanic with 40+ years experience, so im sure he knows what hes doing. He actually replaced a 02 civic sedan Auto Tranns.
So he has the broken on in his garage.
IS there any difference in LX / EX tranns? Is the gearing different? Becuase i think the spare tranny he has was from an LX.

So i changed all of the clutches and steels out and made sure everything was in spec with the dial indicator. The clutches themselves actually werent too bad, but the pickup screen was completely clogged with material.
So what was happening was the screen would get clogged cutting off fluid pressure causing the clutch pack not to engage fully, resulting in slipping gears.
this causes more clutch material to go in to the fluid and get sucked up in to the screen.
The person who had the car before me drove the car for a while w the trans slipping resulting in blued (very hot) steels which had a little bit of warping to them.
Any way, if honda made the pickip tube/filter accessible you could have easily gone another 50k atleast with out slipping and throwing SES codes.
Poor design honda, i think it was on purpose.

thanks for the info! Are those the clutches that are in the 2nd picture? Is taht the TCI auto stuff? Thats what it looks like.
So would all my uncle have to do is clean the screen out real good and replace the parts on the inside with the clutches in the 2nd picture?
My uncle has the Mitchell and ALLDATA on his computer, but i dont think those come with auto tranny rebuild guides for the 2k1 auto tranny, or i could just not be searching hard enough.
haha nice puller thing btw!
Anyway, I dont know much about the insides of an auto tranny but this is cool im learning
