DIY Cat Removal? Anyone?

2001 Civic LX Automatic
60k

*Disclaimer this is an attempt to figure out a problem with my car, this is not intended to make my car faster, sound louder or anything but PURELY for troubleshooting*

I looked under the car, and I am trying to figure out how to remove the CAT.

I thought the cat is the thing right before the muffler, which I THINK is, but it looks like I can only remove the muffler from IT, and its connected/welded to the pipe leading from the engine?

I am sorry if this is dumb or anything, but I just have never messed with exhaust work EVER, so I have no idea what I am doing.

If you have an LX, your catalytic converter comes RIGHT after your exhaust manifold.

So where the pipe meets below the engine, where it has 2 bolt/nuts hold it *with springs between the bolt and nut* would be where it starts?

K well I think I understand where it is now.

I contacted a few shops around town and they told me since it is under 80k that the CAT is covered by Honda. So I called them up, and they are booked till tuesday, DAMN IT. Well atleast I know what I must do now! If worst comes to worse, it will be the $95 diag fee *sigh*.
