Painting Interior Trim Pieces (In Canada)
I've been reading a lot of GREAT tips on who to paint interior trim pieces. However, there is one slight problem. I live in Canada. We don't have PepBoys, we have Crappy Tire. So I have 2 questions: (1) Is there an equivalent product to "PlastiKote" for Canadians and (2) is it necessary for me to use a primer? You see, I was speaking with one of the many automotive "guru's" at Canadian Tire (note the sarcasim) and he suggested I only use their "Exact match" exterior automotive paint to paint the trim pieces. He also said that there is no need to use a primer, just spray it on. My concern with this method is that the exterior paint may corrode the plastic pieces. Is my concern well founded? What should I use?
you must use primer. the paint will not stick. it will chip very easyly with out primer thats if it even stcks. i tried to paint my valve cover without primer and it bubbled up an looked like crap. i stripped it , primed it and painted it now it looks great. i did all my interior trim with factory match silver paint i got from discount auto. you cant tell i wasnt painted from the factory. its perfect.

I bought Duplicolor's Truck, Van & SUV paint, primer, and clear top coat and was told (by people on these boards) that it would work just fine. Good luck though, i'm not brave enough to start painting stuff inside the car yet, i'm still learning with pieces under the hood!

they sell plastikote up here in canada too =o) it's not like a house brand or anything
you can find it at your local automotive store NOT crappy tire..crappy tire only has motomaster house brand stuff
i think Lordco auto is only on the west coast but i could be wrong if youhave lordco out east there you can find it there, or mopac, or napa etc etc ... or even some paint / hobby shops have plastikote just gotta look for it.

Thanx for all the help! I guess I will try the exterior automotive paint as suggested by my "car expert" at crappy tire WITH a primer on the underhood stuff first. If it looks like crap then, since I go to school in Windsor, I guess I could cross that god forsaken bridge over to Detroit and find a Pepboys over there... Once again, Thanx for all your help!
