ive heard its up there in price as far as a low-hp-gain mod goes. and youll only gain like 8 or so hp but hey, our engines need all the help they can get. id get it done only if i had the hook up somewhere.

oh,thats not worth it then.but ill most likely do it anyways. i saw the 2002 concept civic and that sucker has 170 hp and they said that there was only an 2 inch exhaust pipe and header and the head was ported and polished.man!i want 170 hp too. i have my nitrous to do the big torque and hp but, i want that kind of power w/out nitrous.
about 700 bucks man to get it dun.. i know cause im giong to get it dun.. www.portflow.com This is the best place to get it dun and then only place i would really trust besides my shop here.

Good and Bad. Good cause you will not just get 8hp, it will be more like 20hp. plus you will have a lot more stronger components in your engine, this is good for turbo's, or even nitrous. Bad, cause you cant go back on it. Once its done, thats it. Also bad cause it will cost an arm and a leg. By the time everything is finished (labor, shipping of parts, all of the new parts) you will have spent somewhere are 3 grand. I know this because i know people that specialize in just porting and polishing. If i were you, i would take that money and spend it on a slightly less expensive, removable, stroker kit, that will give you about 60-65hp. Hope that helps.
A stroker kit will run you probably about 2500, does anyone have a kit for our cars YET?? no, not YET. give it a while...it will happen soon enough. Whats good? everything. More displacement=more horsepower (you'll probably have about 180hp from a stock EX), stronger engine components=better for S/C, Turbo, Nitrous. Whats bad? they dont have one yet, and its probably more than most people are wanting to spend. I have lots of friends in the business, i'll keep everyone posted as soon as i get any details.
Dont listen to nobottle, porting and polishing is just cylinder head work it doesnt change any engine internals. All they do is take a grinding cartridge and remove some extra material from the intake and exhaust ports allowing more air and fuel into the engine. The polishing is the same work just with a polishing cartridge instead of a grinding one. I do performance engine building on the side and I do plenty of porting and polishing. Nobottlejustthrottle, You shouldnt be opening your hole when you dont know what the fluck your talking about, so shut up.

You should only have a pro P+P your head! You must have a flowbench, you cant just take out material and hope it flows right! You can totally fuuck your engines powerband.
P+P also helps the fuel to mix faster and give more velocity to the Air/Fuel mixture as well as letting having a smoother path to the CC, I doubt you will see any more than 5hp unless you have a cam, and gear. My advise...stick to getting all the bolt-ons first.
wow 2k1exracer...settle down!!! We're all on the same team here, im sorry i was misinformed about P+P, i'll admit to that. No need to get all excited. If someones wrong you can let them know without being an a$$.
Not only should you get your exhaust and intake ports ported and polished, but you should also get your cylinder head deck milled along with a 5 angle valve job. Couple that with wild N/A cams and an aftermarket cam sprocket and you've got between 20-30 potential whp. Maybe someone should do some research to see if the D16Z6/D16Y8 cylinder head blocks can fit on the D17A2 bottom ends. I heard that the only thing Honda did with these engines (D17) was stroke the rods to gives the D17 a few ft/lbs of torque and the extra .1 displacement. The reason I'm asking this is because there's a WHOLE $h!T load of people selling built cylinder D16Z6/D16Y8 heads and if they're interchangable with the D17A2, watch out non-believers...maybe.

you dont have to have a pro do it. if you have the time, just take it apart and port and polish it your self. now when you polish it just make it smooth, dont be taking out anything extra, other wise then you will need a pro and a flow bench. also if you dont know what porting is, it is just making all of your ports the same size acording to your gasket size.
also in reality it does change alot to your engine. you computer came with fuel maps for a certain amount of air flow and exhaust flow. well since you ported and polished it, TB heater bypass, CAI, headers, and high flow cat. you computer really doest really how how much fuel it needs. so you will not get the horse power out of you car till you have changed your fuel map with some kind of engine management system, and put it on a dyno.
hope that helps
<< I'm getting my engine port and polished in a week......at jomar racing......700 bucks...not bad

wow 700 bucks
that is alot of money. i hope they are doing all the work. taking it off and putting it back on, and everthing . that is a butt load of mony on that.
Porting and polishings is pretty much useless as far a horsepower goes for our cars. But if you ported, polished, and decked the head, you would be sitting around 160-170hp. Decking the head means shaving the ends to decrease the stroke which = more horse.
Well, if you're gonna get your HEAD ported/polished, you might just want to get your throttle body ported/polished. Also, maybe some of you should wait til you have enough money to buy a new camshaft and new valve retainers/springs. Because its a pain taking off the head, so while you're at it, just install a new camshaft/valve retain/springs. Just my preference.
