swapping out center console (between the seats)

Im speaking about the center console that houses the stick shirt, hand break, etc.

I have an 01 civic, Im gonna have to get myself a new center console, and I really like the console that the 02+ model has with the lid covering the cup holders....is there a difference in mounting??? is it a straight switch....

can some people post pics of that part so I can see the differences...

Yes you can swap it. I went from 02 auto to manual 01 center console when i did auto to manual tranny swap. All you need is the 02+ center console and the bottom dash piece where the cig lighter and two blank spots are.

2001 center consoles have no built-in armrest and "open" cup holders.

2002 center consoles are the same as 2001 but with "covered" cup holders.

2003-2005 center consoles came with built-in armrests and RSX like e-brakes.

They are not the same.
2003+ require more screws / trim pieces to come off.

Console swap

I have a 01 rallye red coupe, MT. I swapped the center console for an 02 with the covered cup holders. Easy mod, just need to change cig panel to match up to console. Bought it from dealer, it was around $7.00. But you will also need new "dummy" covers(about $6.00 each!) if you do not have switches for the openings. Here are some crappy pics, interior needs cleaned, but hope these help.

P.S. an AT console will work, but you will have to order the panel that includes the shifter boot.

Im currently working on this swap...I previously had the 01...

Some pointers:
You will have to dremel/shave the opening of the hand brake. This is 100% or else when you put down the hand brake it will put too much pressure on the console....

Also, there because the location of the hand brake is offset to the left you may want to come up with something to cover the opening, or buy or make a e-brake boot...if you leave it as is, there is about .5 to 1.5" opening, doesnt look good...Otherwise it looks really good!

I will post pics as soon as Im done...

When I changed my center console in my 01 (open cups) to the 02 (lid over cups) center console I did not have to "dremel" anything to fit. The 02 went in place as easy as the 01 came out, no modification to the console, just needed to change to cig panel. Now the 03 & up I can't say, because I have no knowledge of what that would take, only know that I do not like the 03 & up center console because of that huge block of an armrest.
