Swapping to a 6 speed tranny

Swapping to a 6 speed tranny
No, I'm not doing it, but I was wondering if it was possible to swap to a 6 speed tranny without get a whole new engine? Would you have to remap your entire ECU to handle it? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am not tech savvy, just curious.

Rep Power: 349 i dotn think they make a 6speed trans that could bolt onto the engine so the only way to get a 6speed is to get an rsx-s engine with trans

Rep Power: 0 Well, I remember reading on the RSXZone forums that they have the same outer dimensions as we do, but they have 6 gears, we have 5. Maybe the 6 speed gears are thinner, or the synchros are[IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/IMG]

Rep Power: 412 Man, all you guys miss the point of my thread!! I am not asking to swap to an RSX engine. i know that is possible because it is being done. I am asking if a car with 5 speeds and more power than ours, can switch to a 6 speed tranny!! And what would need to be done in order to do that without switching engines! Rep Power: 0 To tell you the truth robbclark1, I really wouldn't know. If you squeeze out enough extra power to arrive in the area where 6 speed would be an option, wouldn't you be better of leaving all that power spread out over 5 gears ? Lets take the RSX-S again. Does it really kick out some more in that last gear or is it there to keep the engine from freaking out at 8000RPM over sustained periods. These kind of huge mods are new ground for a lot of us on the 7th gen. Remapping ECU ? Doesn't sounds strange in this case.

Rep Power: 0 Well think about your question. What honda has 6 speeds? RSX...S2000, now, how would a RWD and Transversely mounted RSX tranny bolt to your motor? Were you thinking of doing a 6 speed swap?? or was it just something to post?

Rep Power: 412 No i wasn't thinking about doing this, I just wanted to know if it could be done to a faster car, say an Si with a turbo. I am not mechancially inclined at all, though am trying to learn. That is why i am asking.
