well you dont strip it you sand it....and then you fill in everything...you would then spray it a color like black and sand it down so you can see high and low spots..fill in/sand down as necessary and the primer...then you lay you base color wet sand color ..repeat as necessary then you lay you clear....bout 2 -4 coats wetsanding between..its very involved..you need the right tools like a spray gun compresser...then a dirt free enviroment to paint or you will get dust that adheres to the paint....wetsanding is a difficult technique to master...the you would want to bake so it can resists chip...this is a very involved process...painting is like 20%material 30%prep 50%skill....imo leave it to the pros....but hey if you want to do this read up on it first....car paint is pretty expensive

i would say just buy a new front bumper. depending on your quality of shop, it sometimes is cheaper to buy the new bumper than try to save the one that needs repainting.

you can use 1000 gritt sand paper if you want just as long as the surface is scratched the paint will stick. you dont have to get it down to the bare plastic to paint something. just dont use too course of paper like 80 lol. i would say no lower than 600 gritt. believe me i painted my whole entire car lol

If there's any imperfections in the paint already (ie. stone chips, scratches, scrapes, etc... ) you can't just sand with 1000grit and call it a day, you'll have to sand the entire bumper down. Plus with 1000grit, you'll be sanding for days before you even sand off the clearcoat.

How much is it to get like a lip painted, or a bumper, or all four lips to a lip kit?
Also is it common to just take kit or bumper pieces to the shop and have them paint it or do people usually just install it and then have it painted?

Test fit all pieces before you actually paint anything.
$200 to paint a full kit is cheap. Most people will pay anywhere from $400 and up.

stay with 1000-1500 i would say. just make sure you dont miss any spots cuz then the paint wont stick. 1500 is probably not course enough though. so maybe 800-1200. i dont know of any links, but i used 1500 when my dad recleared my car.
