Painting Spark Plug Cover?
Hey everyone, I just started painting my spark plug covers an hour ago and since then, I have put several coats of paint on it. I used 400 grit sand paper on the cover so the paint would stick better, but now I can see alot of the scratches made by the sand paper. No matter how many coats I have, you can still see the scratches made by the sand paper, what am I suposed to do now? To get rid of the scratches, can I just use a finer sand paper to get rid of the very rough parts? If so, what grit should it be? Would really appreciate your help, Thanks!

Yes,...but to make it look professional and correct....you probably need to start over......I wouldn't wast my time starting to sand it off...just remove everything with mineral spirits or paint thinner solvents...depending upon your paint....but be careful not to get something so strong that it eats your cover...although you might just need to lightly sand, I would have to see it to tell you exactly..., but....for your next painting project....400 grit for something like that is really to coarse....all you need is to just "lightly"roughen up the surface to remove any bond breaker that may be present and to create a better mechanical bond...use more like a 600-1000....or silk wool....and remember to paint in thin coats...Good luck bro!...you live and learn, we've all been there!

Ill tell you why I am such an idiot. I accidentaly mistaked 400 grit for 40 grit, which I happened to use on my cover. Don't laugh too hard. Well anyway, I just bought some 400 grit paper and I sanded the cover down undtil it was totally smoothed out. I will give it a try tomorrow, hopefully when I repaint it, it will turn out good. Thanks for your help!
funny i didnt sand down my cover and nuttin has happen to it
but i put on like 2 coats of primer got a wet rag and kinda smoothed out the primer coat put a base coat of my paint then came back with 1 more coat of primer ( the 1 coat of base coat i used to seal the primer coats)
then i came back put 3 coats of base paint and then 2 coats of clear
i know i used a whole lot of paint but i was bored as hell that night LOL
