If you have a Type R shift **** on your Civic... HELP ME!!!

Ok, ok, ok someone tell me how I am supposed to get the shift boot ring attatched to the ****/bolt? I think I read somewhere that the ring from the boot has to come off but I dunno how... and do I have to remove the center console? If so, I'll do it but I just need help with this.
i have the OEM type R ****, and i went Typr style and just took off theat silver ring and let the coot stay where it lay.......i found it comfortable that way to shift anyway.....but i have the OEM type R shift boot comin in the mail now, to give it a cleaner look. i wouldnt attach the ring at all!!!

I took electrical tape and wrapped it around the shifter, and then I just pulled the boot on top of it. The **** rests comfortably on the silver ring. No need to take anything off. Took about 3 minutes to do and looks great.

Okay you guys, thanks a lot. I got the boot to stay up. I still need to play around with the tape or something (as you can see!), I'm not sure... perhaps I should try another method. This one works, except when I went out to my car, I found that the skirt fell! Ah, whatever... it's fixable. I can't wait to get a short shift adaptor, so I think perhaps tomorrow I'm gonna throw off the center console anyways.
HondaSport01: I like what you did! That looks nice... especially since the boot will stay there. Mine still moves down somtimes from the short **** and it feels weird how free the boot is but I got used to it. I think I might consider trying what you did but I think I'm gonna need some more details.

MugenRacerX: I dunno if you know, but would that boot fit around my ****? I dun think my **** is OEM Type R... it isn't.
Thanks a lot!
I have a type r shift **** I think? Well I was looking for a shift *** and I ran across one at the Acura dealership.(Looks just like a type r) Anyway the shift **** came with a kit. There was a plastic piece that went over my shifter. That peice had hooks in it that held up a ring which also came with the kit. Well to better understand I'll list what I did + the part number for the shift ***/kit.
Acura genuine accessories kit,shift **** part number:08U92-S6M-200A $75 canadian
1)Take out center console(refer to DIY remove factory head unit)
2)Place plastic/black cover with the hooks over the shifter
3)Put the center console back on(the boot/ring will fit nicely on the cover)
4)Place a bit of electrical tape in the bottom threads so **** fits tight
5)Screw on **** and enjoy
