D17 lets do this
D17 lets do this
I just bought a 01 civic ex coupe im picking it up thursday... im wondering with a high flow cat and a cold air am i going to hear vtec crack... i just sold my 94 delsol i put a jdm 2nd gen b16 in it various bolt ons 163hp on the dyno and i loved vtec opening up i want to open up the d17 so i can get the same effect not power wise but just for sound/appearance... am i capable of doing this... im sitting thinking to myself and reading countless posts on the d17 and i came up with maybe with a d16 manifold swap there maybe power gains... due to the straight intake rather than the upwards kick out intake... i am a gear head myself but be4 i go taking apart my new car i wanted to know if any1 has done this and if so were there anygains

well i do know honda made the vtec silent on the 01+ civics compared to previous but i'm not sure what makes the noise. i know one member has swapped an older gsr intake mani but it was a ton of work. also a few have done the y8 swap. just search around for the posts.
I need TP for my bunghole

The d17 vtec is nothing compared to the Bark of the B16 you got rid of. And you will in the near future probly regret that. I got rid of my gen 2 integ for this car. long story f^ck this weak kneed d17. Swap in k20A or A2 and be done with it.

well seeing as i sold the car for 1200 to a friend because i blew my 3rd tranny and was to lazy to fix it im already kickin my own ***... i was thinking about a vafc but from some of the other posts i got the impression changing the vtec engagement is pointless because the car will just bog until vtec hits... but if if the 1st vafc works ill throw it in the day i get it any1 know if the 1st one works?

setting VTEC to engage on the higher RPMs on the d17 will do nothing for you. factory engagement point is at like 2.5K. besides, people have done research on the d17's VTEC and its really VTEC-E. basically when it engages, an extra valve opens up (or something like that. i'm sure Gearbox can explain it to you). Setting VTEC to engage at the higher RPMs will just be choking your motor.
Yea i think i remember someone saying something like, My VTEC-E is awesome!!! I mash the pedal and wait for V-TEC to engage and then i say, wOO im getting great gas mileage now!!!!....i guess the deal is, V-TEC-E is designed to save gas in the higher RPM ranges without sacrificing power...

yup and other tests show that the vtec-e engages at 4500 rpm and only when the car is warmed up, oil pressure is hi enough, and you're at full throttle. even then you can't hear or feel it.

I can hear differences when my valves open around 4k RPM...Below 4K its quiet...And our engine is 3 stage...Unlike other older vtec's...I drove my friend's Lude type-S and the Vtec engagement at 6K is amazing...I think it is because it is single stage...unlike vic's.

Vtec-E is a swirling effect within the combustion chamber, it deactivates one intake valve per cylinder creating the effect. and we do have this feature but not alone. We have 3 stage vtec. So with a vafc you can adjust the vtec crossover all you want. just dont take it to extremes.

high flow cat will give you 1hp and a check engine light unless you use modified spark plug non - foulers. Also your vafc1 will not work properly on our cars becouse it was designed before 3stage vtec was. The beautifull thing about the vafc 2 is you can buy the plug and play harness from dezod.

I think you are very mixed up with your information.
I have as much vtec as the rest of you? ... what is that supposed to mean?

this is the most rice thread I have ever seen....truly. Sound above performance and a WHOLE lot of misinfo. THe only way you are going to hear V-TEC on a D17 is to strap the cordless phone to the intake manifold.
