Red Optima Battery Doesnt Fit HELP
Red Optima Battery Doesnt Fit HELP
Ok this is the problem.
I have a 02 honda civic ex.
I purchased the optima red top Model 75/35 battery.
The battery is wider but shorter then the original battery.
The original battery had a black plastic shell, bottom, and blk plastic tie down.....
When I made the swap, I took out the blk plastic shell and bottom but now the tie down doesnt reach the screw hole.
My question is....
Do I need something to hold the battery down besides the tie down?
Looks like a need a new tie down, what would you recommend?
HELP. thank you
PICS would be nice too.
(l looked on other threads, no luck.)

oh oh, i have an idea, try buying the damn 51 series red top that was made for our car instead of the 75/35 not made for our car. Optima makes a 51 and 51R that are both intended to work with a civic and are the same size battery as stock. 51 is standard terminals, 51R is reverse (negative and positive are on opposite sides). Just a suggestion on buying the CORRECT products.

it fits. just adjust the mounting post to max height using the nut on the threads and bend it around the top part of the battery a lil bit.

Optimas are great for a lot of loads, such as ICE and... if you have your heater etc, on. Also have a lot of reserve power for starting.
The lightweight battery is really for speed. It starts your car, but I wouldn't spend hours running the stereo.
Since I don't drive my 7th gen much, I use an optima. At least the car starts right up even after sitting unused for a month.

The yellow top is made for deeper discharges, such as from ICE or sitting a long time. The red top is made for starting and has more cold cranking amps, but it's not as good for long periods of discharge. If you have a lot of loads such as ICE, a yellow top will last longer. If you don't run HUGE amps and subs, a red top will work just fine. Now a BLUE top is simply a marine version, made for very deep discharges such as electric boat motors, etc. The blue top has the lowest cranking amp rating, but can deliver this for the longest amount of time. The yellow is about middle, and the best compromise, and the red has the highest cranking amps, but only for a short burst.
Our cars don't need much cranking amps, so you pick what you want.
