selenoid valves

ive been pondering about this. some companies want to do this. there are advantages and disadvantages of this. the most gain from a selenoid valve would be way the hell less friction.
when i say vavles, i mean intake and exhaust. i don't know how you could make them deal with the heat but instead of relying on a cam and lobes it would be electrical impluses that take less than 1/10 of a second. any ideas? thoughts?

2 things.
1 being a soliniod is not fast enough for hi rpm's
2 its not as reliable as a spring and a cam

And the life of a mechanical system far exceeds an electrical one.

Nonetheless, it's an idea that's being currently worked on.

i mean vtec engagement is from a selenoid valve isn't it? i mean if they could figure it out, you almost would not need a camshaft. timing would be perfected all the time, less parts to throw into the engine and more hp cause its less power loss from all the parts moving around. it would also be cheaper to make. i know that metal lasts longer than lets say plastic, but plastic can be replaced at a fraction of the cost.
im glad some other people know what im talkin about at least.

a vtec solinoid is just a switch to an oil passage.

Electronics are what created the "nano second reaction"
2
Like electronic ignition is not as reliable as points and condensor?

"Electronics are what created the "nano second reaction""

Also what created what is going to cure cancer... but I agree with what is said above, electronics has the ability to switch on/off in such a short time it could blow your mind. BTW a nanosecond is 10^-9 seconds... think about that.....

first. you are not switching something on and off like a relay or a solid state device, you are physically moving an object with electromagnatiism and holding it there with the same force. there will be no nanosecond valve...
second they would eliminate the piston valve engine all together sooner than playing with this idea.

I think he means that they are not like a light switch. If you flip a light switch it stays there by it self. I think he was trying to say that with solenoids there must be a forced applied to hold the light switch in position.
