Octane
Octane
I think my dealer said that I should only be putting in the lowest grade octane, like 87 or something. Doesnt this go against everything that we ever learned in previous years about higher octane being better. Did Honda do something with their engines that allows them to burn the lower octane efficiently without screwing up your engine? BTW I have a 02 civic LX.

don't waste your money, use what the manual says. the only reason you would need higher octane is if you have machined your piston heads, resulting in a higher compression ratio.

listen up i got a civic 2k1 i flled it up with 87 drove it for a week i dont like it at all!!!!! fill your car with 87 for a week then 93. if you know your car well you can feel the diffrence. (my car struggles more on 87 . im gonna stick to 93 and pay the extra money
Actually 87 Octane burns easier than 93 Octane the higher the octane the hotter the spark needs to be to burn it. So, use 87 Octane. Our cars are made to be efficent with 87 Octane, our compression in the engine isn't high enough for any higher grade. You can use it, but any small gain in power will not be worth the price.
I sure didn't notice any power gain using 93 octane. In fact, I got 2 MPG less with 93 than I did with 87, and that was based on a 1400 mile trip with the cruise on most of the way. Don't waste your money on the higher octane !!

BAK is right, 87 is the only thing to put in your car, unless you get knocking or pinging, which you shouldnt because our cars are made for 87 octane, anything more is a waste of money, and lowers gas mileage, and ive even heard it can be bad for the engine in the long run
I don't know what you guys are smoking when you say that you felt a difference in performance by using higher octane. Listen up,
HIGHER OCTANE DOES NOT HAVE A DIRECT LINK TO HIGHER HORSEPOWER/PERFORMANCE!!
Higher octane can actually make your car lose power. A study was done on an Accord with regular (87) and premium (92). The Accord put down more power with the cheaper 87 octane gas. Just use 87 and be glad you didn't buy a damn Ford Focus...
