if you think that i that i think that that movie is the bible than you are wrong. i thought that it was pointless. just had a bunch of nice cars. and most out there are jealous cause they cant have one. i just wanted to know it anyone out there knew how to do that to their car, cause i thought that it would be cool. i have seen that done to classic rods in real life, so i know that it is possible. i have just never seen it on and import or even a newer model car. so if there is anyone out there that knows how to do it please tell me, if not then say me from the ridicule of wanting to do it.

Man! I don't know! But trying to use the logic, I think your car has to be able to handle a lot and a lot of fuel, bigger injectors, a good ignition system and a very high compression. I guess that's why you see that in old hot rods, because sometimes they have big blocks, huge carburators and a lot of horsepower. But I think that'll do it!
Bashing on Canadians is not cool, think about the hissyfit you would have if I said "you're from the states, you're ingnorant" - which I'm not saying, I just want to make a point.

i did this with my friend on his old camaro.last summer. i don't know if it would work on the 2k1 civic but here is the basics. you need to first remove the cat converter and replace it with a piece of strait pipe. the cat converter neutrilizes unused fuel so it is not combustable/flamable. once removed the exhaust has a portion of flamable vapor leaving the car also. the flame comes from a simple contraption consisting of a spark plug, some 14-16 cauge wire and a toggle switch like for fog lights etc. this provides the spark to light the gas. mount the spark plug near the end of the exhaust, the switch somewhere in the car's cabin. it won't make 40 foot flames or anything but it would provide the effect you are lookin for. there is probably i more scientific or expensive way to do this requiring several mods., but this gets the job done and for cheap>

thats the way my auto teacher told me to do it when i asked him..
take out the cat, run a live wire from a plug in the end of the muffler and switch it on when you wanna shot flammes..
i don't know why people have to be so bitchy on this site...if we're not here to offer help and recieve help then what's the point of the forum? If you don't like what someone posted then don't say anything, just ignore it...

the big problem with this, of course, is the legality of pulling off your cat...you're car will have a weeeeeeeee problem passing emissions, too...hehe
but at least it would look pretty cool!
Then again, unless your car really had the muscle to back up all of that show, it might be pretty tacky...

Yeah, you guys have the right idea. My opinion here doesn't matter, but basically you need a spark plug for ignition near the rear of your tailpipe, remove your cat replacing it w/ a straight pipe.
Problem with this is that usually, people had a toggle switch to switch a live wire to the spark plug, and the actual spark plug wire that ran to it came from the distributor. People would tap into the distributor so it would fire in sequence with one of the cylinders.
Problem with this: Our car has no Distributor. Where would you tap into for power for the spark plug?
By the way, to some of you folks who see the fireballs coming out of some race cars and rally cars: Thats not a mock-up. That is pure fire coming out of the exhaust manifold from the huge combustion that is taking place in the chamber. The fire is actually following unspent vapors out into the exhaust. Really high HP Turbocharged motors create the flame naturally
What I'd really like to see is someone make a civic with such high HP they could do it with raw HP

cheers to rallyex
amen brother
the 2001 civic is a "ulev"
ultra lowwww emisions vehicle . in most states you could pull off the cat and be fine.i use to drive an ancient buick, i had to put all kinds of money into it to make it pass. you could plug a have dozen civics into the omission tester @ once and probably pass the dumb test
warrenty is another thing
distributer is out . maybe wiring a relay like what makes you turns signals blink would work as long as it was a hot wire also. it can be done

Best I can remember, the guys who used to do this flame thing would use something called a "magneto" which they would install under the dash, and flick a toggle switch to turn it on. It pulses the power to the spark plug resembling a distributor's output. This is the best I can remember it. Can't imagine anyone doing it to a modern car with emissions controls, plus what's the point? You might get a lot of ooohs and aaahs in the ghetto. Guess I'm just too old to understand it.

Here's the deal. The ways that others have explained it will work, but you're just rigging it ghetto style. If you want to shoot flames for real (like the hot-rods of days gone by) you need to start by removing the catalytic converter (CAT). Running without a CAT is considered a straight-pipe. Second, you need to adjust your car to run extremely rich. The flame that is created inside the engine isn't big enough to reach the end of your tailpipe stock. Basically, you need to have the flame still burning strong during the exaust stroke of your engine. Chances are, even with a larger injector and fuel flow, your car still won't shoot flames, but, I'm sure it is possible.
But, that's how it's done properly.
Also, the movie is filled with inaccuracies. I'm not even gonna start on the list.

My friends and I did this to a '96 hatch civic and we had to adjust the fuel to run so rich that the engine couldnt put in enough oxygen to burn all the fuel so we took it out.
Thats exactly how they do it in Japan!!!!!,In Sport Compact a year or so ago, they had a little touch onthe subject . They sell kits in Jaoan to hook up spark plug(s) to your exhaust!Toggle switch ect......
"Fast AND Furious rush of insto flamo propello".Except its legal in Japan but not in U.S. D*** Government Politicts.......
