lowering car - bad?

I don't know much about cars, but I want to make mine look real nice from the outside. I already have the OEM ground effects, now I want 16" wheels and a 1.5" drop, but this one guy I was talking to said that lowering the car will cripple the body after several years. is this true?

I figure maybe I'll go with 17" and it would look low enough from the OEM ground effects

Having a lowered ride height will only put more stress on your struts and springs, the body takes the same forces no matter how high or low the car is, unless you drop it so low that you keep bottoming out on everything. That would not be good for any part of the car. If you put on 17's without a drop, it will look funny(IMO), a 1.5" drop isn't much at all, I'm running almost 3" lower than stock in my Sedan right now.

i currently have 17 rims wrapped in 215/40/17 low pros with stock suspension, and it made the wheel well gap bigger. It actually looks like i raised my car. Tomorrow i'm getting my eibach sportline kit which will lower my car 1.5-2 inches, and from what i have heard, insn't that bad on my stock suspension. Unless of course i nail a speed bump at 40.

i also have 17's (konig verdicts) and i lowered my car 1.7 with the eibach sportlines and it look great your gonna love it lowered but you do have to be care full going over speed bumps. if you wanna see what sportlines look like (but no rims on this pic) go to www.drive.to/bellevuestreetracing go to Members then Mark Civic EX (thats me) I'm still a junior member or i'd have my car on this site. but take a look if you want new pics should be up soon with my rims.

I got 17's and i lowered my car with coilovers (Matrix). Sadly due to my coils my rear shocks can not handle
the coils........ the rear bounce like a motherflucker while the front is perfect...... so i got rear Koni Yellow adjustable
shocks and now my ride is great (for a lowered car). I lowered it about 1.75 inches all around......
