Quicker steering -- possible steering rack swap?
Quicker steering -- possible steering rack swap?
Hey guys.
I'm not quite sure where to post this -- tech chat seemed as good a place as any -- but I'm trying to figure out a few options for getting better steering response out of my little Honda. It's an '04 EX Coupe (5-speed), and the steering, as I'm sure you all know, is a bit on the vague side. Is there any way to quicken it up?
I'm not sure what ratio the RSX Type-S steering rack is, or even the Si, but if they are any tighter, are they swappable? Has anybody attempted such a project?
Thanks!
Dan

Hah. I'm not out to be a hero, just better steering.
Anybody know where I can find diagrams of the requisite parts? Parts department microfiches, that sort of thing? I'm sure an FSM will tell me all I need to know about dropping the rack, but I want to see what kind of adapters and such I'll have to fabricate before I do it.

I would venture to say the RSX rack is a little quicker, but I can't say for sure. The design of it makes it vague.... there's not really a way to fix that. Changing the ratio to something faster reduces the turns lock to lock but on center it'll still flutter.
