Clutch wear symptoms
Hi everyone. I did a search on the topic and didn't get much info. I just wanted to know what are the early warning signs that your clutch could be wearing out?
I just burnt my tongue

It's weird. I bought my EX standard new. and the "sweetspot" was roughly half way up from the floor. Now its got about 12k on it. I am an experienced standard shift driver (drove stick for 5-6 years before getting this car). However, the sweetspot has slowly crept higher and higher. Now, the clutch starts grabbing when my foot is damn near off the pedal. No slippage though. I don't know what the deal is. I drove 50k+ miles on the original clutch on my Prelude. So I know my driving habits are not those that kill clutches.

mine started showing minor signs like those above, so i took it back to honda and they replaced the master cylinder. works a lot better after that.
edit: for those who don't know, the master cylinder is where all the pressure is contained in a hydraulic clutch, it is attached to the slave cylinder, which is in turn attached to the throw out fork. When pressure is exerted on the slave cylinder, it operates the fork.

Just cause a clutch is hyd. does not mean it wont tell when its wearing. The point at which the clutch grabs will not be the same on any pedal including those that are hydro. Enuaging point is a tell and the fluid level is a tell and also clutch chatter is a tell. I only have 38k miles and mine chatters and the point is not as it was and the fluid is low. I believe that they put a weak clutch in these cars. I am going to keep driving mine but I am driving it easy and prolly should any way.

im at 54k and i have the same issue - but if people have gone 100+ im not concerned.
anyone else have a squeeking noise when you press on the pedal that comes from inside the bell housing? i think its the throwout bearing, it sounds dry and creaky. damn i prolly should change it soon - i know theres a diy for your own clutch install.

I have a 2001 sedan and just turned 100k miles. For the past year the clutch has been really grabby, there isn't much modulation in the clutch. There has been this Grinding/Rattling noise for the past few months that is very noticeable from inside the car when accelerating or decelerating, almost like the gears are worn or something. It’s the most noticeable in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. Now for the past couple days it’s starting to make a similar noise when the car is parked, idling. The noise stops when you press in the clutch, and then starts when released. I’m going to replace the clutch and stuff soon, what would be causing this sound? Is it the syncros or something?
Thanks
EDIT: Also off the subject.. my AEM Short Ram Intake just cracked at the mount (I'm guessing from vibration or something, I'm going to use a rubber gromet when I put it back on). Do these things have a warranty? If not I'm just going to have my brother weld it.
Thanks

Well chatter is when you try to smoothly let out the clutch and you can feel a jerky motion and or jerky motion in the car. Some times chatter is really light. My ingage point is high too and my fluid level is lower a bit meaning the clutch disk has worn down. I only have 38k miles. But after I got my revo and i/h/e it seems that it is very hard not to power shift second. Soone too many second hits for me has made my clutch weak. Now I could easily keep on driving it easy and get alot more miles on this clutch but i prefer to get it changed and have the upgraded clutch. As for the noise when depressing the clutch is going to be the t.o.b.(throw out bearing) and most of them are a sealed bearing and some are not. Dragon7 I would say you are in the same boat as me just save up for a new clutch and change it. I do not think its a major problem now but it gives you some time to save up. I hear the exedy organic is good so I think I will run that one.
