So i tried to do gearbox's http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219306 but on my 2k1 coupe theres only one bolt so I couldnt adjust it:
1)take a lock washer and open it up

2)Remove the cruise control cable and take the rubber gromet and bolt all the way off of the threads. Then slip the cable between the gap in the washer on the other side of the bolt as the gromet. Leave the washer open just a little.

3)Put the cable back on and as you tighten the bolt this is why you keep the washer open just a bit. so you can tighten the bolt to the point where

but this is what your's should look like once everything is put back together.


This is not maintnance. This is not a mod to gain power. However it takes under 5 minutes. If you enjoy working on your car you can do it for free with an old washer. All it does is make your car just a little bit better. I personally like knowing the second I turn something on it will come on.

because it would take 2-3 secs after pressing the button before cruise kicked in, and by then the speed drops out. Tightening it makes it engage in 1 sec.

so when you take your foot off the gas and engage cruise control theres no slowing down for 2 seconds then a sudden jolt. it just gives the car a clean tight feel. same idea as a strut bar on a commuter car which you would never take a corner at over 30mph in, you dont need it but it makes your car feel a lil better

on my 02, I tightened it just like the throttle cable. I think 01 is different.

yea big difference. Mine took 3 secs to engage and by that time I couldn't maintain the speed I wanted it at. Then it would adjust very slowly and now keep proper speed. Now its like the car is new again.

oh wow 3 secs that alot of deccel. well i can see the point of it in your case but in my case what would be the point of it if mine engages, like 1-2 secs, the car decells, for like 1-2 mph, then jumps and cruises....

The difference between 01 and other years is theres only one nut to make sure the cruise control cable has some kind of tension where as later years it has 2 nuts so you can adjust the level of tension. I took the cable all the way off because it takes less time to get the cable off and do it my way than it does to open a washer wide enough to get it over the threads then close it tight enough to have it fit in the seat while doing all of this in a cramped area. or you can take the cable off which takes 3 seconds and do it this way.

that's why you're supposed to maintain your speed for those 2-3 seconds, then when you feel it take over/light come on, you take your foot off the gas.

doesn't anyone read their manual when they get their car???

to be honest, that would have been my next question. if people are having problems with a deccel for 1-3 seconds, then y dont you keep your foot on the gas till it engages. but oh well

when i first got the car (and two years after) it engaged immediately after I pressed the button and using accel/decel would instantly have an effect. Obviously there is a problem now which warrants adjusting it. Same thing for the throttle cable.....it gets loose over time too.
