leather steering wheel cover

Anyone know how difficult it is to install the leather steering wheel cover that honda sells as an option? The stitching looks kinda complicated and hard. I just ordered it off the internet and don't know what I'm getting myself into.

It isn't that bad at all, just time consuming and your fingers may get raw from handling the string.

if yer talking about that donut shaped cover then it might b a lil difficult. my dad told me heat it up a bit so that it stretches and just put it on fast. puttin it straight on will hurt yer fingers bad and might tear the stitching apart.

I did a Wheelskins cover on my 00 Corolla. Took about 3 hours of work and I did not even do the "baseball stitch" like the car makers use, it is the stitch that looks best IMO.

Check out the Wheelskins site they cover doing the baseball stitch it is best to have 2 threads and 2 needles to do it properly.

I have been tempted by that cover as well.

i don't have the one from honda... are these the leather wraps that are held on with that shitty plastic gimp stuff? if so, throw that crap away and get yourself a "gimpless" leather wrap from autozone. they're like $15-20 and they take like 30 seconds to install... plus, i've had mine on for 4 years with no prob whatsoever... unlike gimp ones i've had in the past where i had to keep re-tightening it and **** between seasons.

edit: WOOHOO 100 posts!!! only 360 more to go before my rep is back to zero!!

The Wheelskins use waxed thread, I would imagine the Honda cover would use the same.

i had a wheelskins one also, not sure how similar it is to the honda one. but im guessing it is, how different can a wheel cover be?? lol

it wasnt hard to put on, just time consuming. it helps to have a set of leather gloves to protect your hands. the thread is rough on the fingers, cause it looks best if you tighten it as much as you can.

i loved mine though. it made the wheel just the right thickness and felt great!!

i see it and it looks pretty tight... although, with a lack of holes, doesn't it get hot in the sun or does it still breathe pretty well?

and damn how i wish my honda emblem was subdued like this one on the odessey... that glare can be crippling if the sun catches it just right.
