oil change
i dont know if this have been brought up or not, but do we really need to change washer when doing an oil change? if so do i go to the honda dealership and get it?
i could've sworn the last time I bought mine they were only like 50 cents a piece .. they definaltey weren't a dolllar.
BTW my mom drives a '98 Nissan Pathfinder that I also maintenance, and those crush washers are like frigen $3 a piece .. and it's not just any washer, they look like a tiny spring and crush down to create a better seal .. some kind of patent that Nissan has ... who knows

its a crush washer. cause if you don't the absence of the crush washer could make your bolt get too tight in your oil pan. and a stripped bolt it a nightmare. it helps prevent leaks cause the crush washer "crushes" and acts like a seal. you need a new one everytime cause the washer never crushes the same. leaks=bad
I bought 100 washers at a popular on-line parts store, the total cost was $5.00. Shipping was $14.95, but I purchase another $100 worth of parts for another vehicle.

But really he's right, the washer is aluminum, and if you torque the oil plug to the proper spec, the wash wish deform around the plug and pan making a nice seal once the oil and pan heat up. Don't try to cheap out with a hardware store washer, a washer is far cheaper than an engine.

You can get them at the dealer, or auto parts stores or online from Honda OEM parts places. Most often from what I have seen online you get a small bag of 10 to 20 of them for under $6.00 bucks at most places.
At http://www.handaaccessories.com/civmaint01.html you can get them for .20 cents.

your crush washer will break eventually^^^. the first time i changed the oil on my vic i did not know you needed a crush washer. so i used the same one, but only that one time. for me its better to be safe than sorry. the washer looses the usefulness after its already been crushed once. anyways, its only a dollar every 2-3 months. its not a big deal. if you gonna get washers from someone other than the honda dealership compare the old one to the new one and make sure they are the same size.
