Engine light. . .is it time to mod?

My engine light came on yesterday on the way to work. I stopped by and had the code checked this morning on the way home from work.

P420...?

Anyways, its the catalytic converter code. So, I'm guessing its time to do the I/H/E upgrade?

It's a 2001 EX 5 speed. 80,000 miles.

Only problem with doing this 'upgrade' is I was saving for my K20 and wanted to use that money for I/H/E on my K20. What do you guys/girls think?
Just get a cat-back or get the whole deal. I know Dezod had a special running that had the I/H/E and a crower cam for < $1500.

Whichever suggestion you make (either cat-back or full I/H/E) please give me a suggestion as to which brand (and where to get it) you would get. As you can probably tell, my expertise is motorcycles, not the 7th gen civic.

Sorry, guys, forgot to mention, I'm definitely replacing the cat, just wanted to know about the exhaust question. I know the damaged cat will rob me of gas mileage and performance (hehe, I know it's still a d17).

well if you are going to swap soon and don't have to worry about a smog check you could just buy an 02 sim and gut your stock cat. that would be the cheap way out. You will need a cat back when you do the swap either way.

You can buy a Random Tech for approx $300 shipped.

RT makes one for the RSX, but if your swapping, I don't see the need to spend it on a D17. I agree w/ Mota.

It will be around spring of 2006 before I have enough saved for my swap. So I need to do something now.

I was thinking I may just get a hi-flo cat and a cat-back.

???
