power stearing
power stearing
my stearing becomes very hard when I turned it at low speed (parallel parking, etc.) I suspect it to be my power stearing that is dead or something but it doenst do it all the time but most of the time. Does anyone know what it might be? and if it is the power stearing does anyone know how I can fix it myself?
Well it is harder to turn a slow/non moving tire because there is more resistance from the road and tires. Like Victorious said, if it was dead it would be doing it all the time. First check your PS fluid and make sure its full, if not fill it up. If it is, and your car is under warranty, take it to honda and tell them to look at it. The PS pump either works or not, it doesnt go on and off.
^^^If you have the D17 engine (not si or RSX) then the resevior is located on the drivers side up near the windshield. There are 2 up there, one if PS and one is brake fluid. If your checking one, you might as well check both, odds are good if one is low both are. There is a line on the side that says "max" and one that says "min".
Actually the power steering reservoir is the grey with red cap reservoir just behind the driver's side headlight. The two reservoirs at the firewall are brake fluid and clutch fluid (for manuals only).

Lower right hand corner next to PS pump. Grey res w/red cap.
Thanks to waross for his perfect picture.

I had the lines disconnected and open and I drained only enough fluid so it wouldnt come out of the lines but im gunna do the breather deal before I stuff the new engine in seeing how its so easy to get at. For some reason our cars are harder to steer than most of the prev gen stuff when the ps is disconnected. My boys 4 door accord steers way easier than mine and he has his stuff off from when he did h22a swap. Its only a problem till your muscles get used to it anyways. My gf got used to it so I bet anyone else can.
