Tightened E-Brake, any opinion?
Hi guys!
I just followed Grey's DIY to tighten my E-brake from inside my car...
now, the question is........
currently, i need approximately 5~6 clicks (pull slowly up) to engage the E-brake...do you guys think it's normal or did i tighten it too much?
i really feel nice with it now....cos' it only needs short pull...and the e-brake itself doesn't wiggle around anymore...the problem is....i'm afraid that i over tighten it.........and might be the cause of the "squeeking" noise from behind when i push my brake to stop...
thanx!

Rep Power: 0 you don't need to jack the car up to tighten the e-brake cable... If you had the tires off the ground chances are you would make it too tight. With the car level, you can make it just perfect.

Rep Power: 429 you dont need to tighten the ebrake from inside the car. Just jack up the rear, remove the drums and adjust the star adjuster to set the clearance between the shoes and drums. You should feel a slight drag. That will set also the parking brake. Mine has 1 click.

Rep Power: 266 I tighten my e-brake (drums on rear) by driving in reverse at the speed of a jog, then stopping the car by pulling on the e-brake. 1-3 times and my e-brake feels like new.
Eeeh... it works for me.

^hm..
kind of WORD to me....but there's a thread that discusses this earlier...
he mentioned that the mechanic on a shop are the one who told him about this trick...
it's supposedly works to adjust the star rachet by "cheating" it.....as u all know, braking after reverse also known to auto-adjust the rear brake..
anywho....still, this trick has nothing to do with the e-brake loose handle...
