Intake
I know that this has been covered a lot of times, but I have never seen a clear answer. In just about every thread that I've seen, someone recommends that the intake is left stock or someone recommends a cheap ebay intake. Price aside and that sort of thing, which aftermarket intake will I be able to get the most gains out of? I don't really care if I only get a gain of 1 hp. I've been itching to put one on for a long time and the stock intake and the ebay ones that aren't name brands just don't do it for me. I drive an auto civic ex, so my options for intakes are limited in the cold air region.
Name brands say their intakes give you this much and that much hp gains. But in actuality, they're all about the same. If you dont care about gaining even just 1 HP. then why spend $$$ on brand name ones. I recommend getting the $30 ebay ones for the piping, and just get a brand name filter.

intakes for D17 are mostly for the sound, you won't be getting any gains that are worth the money you spent. stock ones give more gains the any aftermarket intakes unless you have some serious engine mods.
i didnt see a gain with my intake in till i installed my hp header, i had the injen intake, but i agree with the rest of them, save your money for something else, or buy a cheap ebay intake and put a INJEN, AEM ect sticker on it. ..

Well, I have had both an AEM cai and my current random *** intake..
The AEM sounded good and had good low trq and mid 4-5k gains.. I also used an HKS filter on it at one point, which gave good trq, but lowered my (feeling) of hp in the mid to high range.
However, I prefer this intake I have now.. my buddies got it for me from the local shop or ebay or something, some random brand X intake.. It has HUGE piping, I'll have to measure, I think it's like 2+ inches... Well the low trq is great, better than the aem.. and it 'feels' like it pulls harder, but doesn't make the nice swishy sound the aem made.. I like the brand X better in THIS case.. but like always.. "It depends on what you want.."
And sometimes you have to try a few things to find the one YOU really like...

in your situation, go ebay.
have your really measured? AEM CAI is already 2 inches diamter pipe. A V2 has a 3 inch pipe. ANd that brand X, is it SRI or CAI?

i bought a "bomz racing" from ebay cold air and it sounded real nice at the higher rpms. i didn't really notice a gain in performance however on my lx manual. but i am converting it to a short ram because i have had problems with it in the rain (stalling, sputtering).
