Where did you get this info? It's not even close.

D17 non-vtec: 33lb-ft
D17 vtec: 29lb-ft

However, you have to keep in mind that these specs assume you're using a new OEM drain plug every oil change. This is because they're crushable; they deform when torqued to spec to create a proper seal.
I picked up a dozen for about 20 cents each, so the only hassle is getting them from a dealer.

yea when I redid my oil pan, when I first saw 8.7 ft lbs. I thought it was too loose, but I had to go buy a inch lb. torque wrench cause regualr ones dont go that low.

hand tight it. Been doing it for a long time. Just change the crush washer everytime you change your oil.

I got my info right from the owner's manual. Just look under the maintenance section, and all the info is right there for all the fluid changes, etc.

Just to inform everyone i replaced my oil pan gasket, this question was aimed at the bolts that hold the oil pan to the block.

i'm assuming you have the LX as your profile says, in that case:

disconnect the battery. disconnect the o2 sensor cennectors, disconnect the exhaust pipe.
apply a small bead of rtv sealant to the oil pump cover and rear main seal housing corners where they meet the block. the apply rtv sealant to the four corners of the recesses of the oil pan gasket (the rounded parts on either end). tighten the bolts finger tight in this sequence:
1. the back side, in the middle
2. the front side, in the middle
3. back side corner, passenger side
4. front side corner, passenger side
5. back side corner, driver side
6. front side corner, driver side
then tighten all the bolts to 104 in-lbs. the drain plug for the d17a1 gets torqued down 33 ft-lbs. reconnect the battery. wait 1 hour before putting oil in the car. after putting oil in, then run the engine and check for leaks.

hope this helps.

thats cool until the jb weld gets some age on it, falls off, and you drain your car of a oil in a few minutes.
